Last spring i installed the DE downpipe and never could get the tube back in. I ended up ripping the grommet and when i finally got it in, because i had altered the bends, it would not go all the way down and seat on the grommet which would give inaccurate readings. By then, i was sick of fooling with the truck because i was already pissed from the pipe install and heat shield, so i just plugged the hole and decided to fool with it later.

Anyway, 7 months later, i cut off about 5 inches of the tube on both ends and replaced the middle portion with 3/4" ID heater hose with two hose clamps on either end. To calibrate the length, i had made a mark on the dipstick when it was fully pushed in the factory tube and cut the hose until the mark was flush with the bottom of the new tube. I did this while fixing the hose to have the same bend as factory. It will change from being straight to bending it like it will permanently stay. Level reads the same as it was before and took about 15 minutes to route and secure after i made it up. The bracket broke off the original tube and is still bolted to the tranny and the heater hose rests in it which keeps it away from the down pipe.

Seems to be a good fix. Not rocket science but i was proud because it had given me fits before and i knew i had to be able to check the fluid level. I dont think the fluid will splash up high enough to get on the hose so hopefully it will hold up for a while.

I wanted to but mike told me way back when that it didnt work on the lmm like the lbz...atleast i think he did. I read a few post where guys couldnt get them in either and if anybody will have problems then it will be me. So, i just opted to spend the $10 versus 100 and another pita.

A 2011 dipstick tube will work on any of them. You may need to cut off some length and use you existing dipstick. They aren't much money either.

Didnt know that either. Also for the guys that do this, which ever route they opt to take, remember that the tube has to be seated in contact with the grommet and the length of the tube must be the exact length (with the same bends if a flexable tube is used like mine) as the oem tube so that when the dipstick is pushed down all the way, the fluid level reading will be correct. Any change to how much of the bottom end of the dipstick goes down into the pan will cause incorrect level readings. Common sence, i know, but just throwing it out there for the lesser skilled such as myself.

Good job on the fix though, its a good idea.

The pic was taken outside a bar/restaurant we were all waiting to get a seat at one night lol

Cool. I like their show. The other week there was an all day marathon of it and i watched about 4 episodes straight. Noticed one of them drive a lifted black LMM as they went to the American Restoration guy's place.
