i have a idea on how to dampen the noise but cant find a urethane that i like ( make up a isolator like the factory deal but i want a urethane that is hard so the shifter isent so mushy)

aloso thought about making one out of some SS tube might dampen the noise

when i had my factory clutch the noise wasent bad but with my SBC DD it makes quite a ruckis lol

when i first made the shifter i had it taped for the 1/2 18 thred but being aluminum the "t" handle came loose (even with loctite) so i just welded it solid
you can prity much make a shifter outa any thing and top it of however you like
i forget the thread pitch of hand its posted up on DP somewhere
i can easy tap you a little piece of 1" round steel for the stub on the trans and you can build off of that

My old 95' stroke i had, I got a sweet International Harvester knob at a show but it had a 9/16 fine thread and the OEM shifter is splined for a plastic knob. I hacked the splines off and found an old race clutch stud and a big 12pt locknut. welded that on there and metal finished the weld, sanded the whole shifter and en-grained the whole stick with 800grit very straight to make it look like brushed stainless, and clear coated it! Then screwed the 12pt nut on backwards, spun the new IH knob on almost all the way but aligned right and backed the nut up against the knob to lock it down! Looked killer!
Bout billiard ball size and felt/looked great! You could do the same? Pretty easy;)

whats the stock shifter made out of...could i cut the stock shifter close to the tranny(so i would still have the rubber isolator) then weld an aluminum peice that got up through the floor and rubber shift boot and then thread the end...seems like a bit of work but to me a new shifter isnt really worth it if i have to listen to tranny noises...i can handle the stock setup over new noises that drive u mad! haha

4wheeler...id be interested in any ki9nd of ideas yoyu got to quiet down the noise...i kinda had the same idea about tryin to fit a some kind of suspension bushing as a replacement for vibrations...

the factory shifter is a steel tube, might be tricky to weld it to a piece of aluminum ;)

for the urethane i was gona cast my own bushing in to my shifter , boor out the threads in the bottom to a 1inch or bigger hole set in a a threaded bushing then mix up and pour in the urethane
i was also thinking just a hallow tube and fill it with some bits of foam rubber

hmmm...sounds like you should try the bushing idea and see how it work out! haha interested to hear if it works!

I buffed all the black off of my stock shifter and put a B&M T handle on it. Looks pretty good!

Shifter

I have a Hurst flat stock shifter in my Duramax and it works great. Did it shorten the throw? NO! Does it look mean as hell? Yes! It also make finding gears a little easier too. I ordered a flat stock Hurst stick from Jeg's as well as a Hurst super boot. The I took a one inch thick piece of nylon plastic and cut the base out the same size as the template that come with the boot. this gives it the play it needs. Then I took a round piece of round stock that was 1.5 inches around and 3 inches tall, on one end I drilled and threaded it to screw on the shifter, on the other end I notched it out so I could get a good weld. Don't forget you haft to get the knob custom engraved if you want the pattern on the top. There is a picture on my profile.

Damn that was a little harsh. LOL! I'm Jimbo- Slice, I registered a new Profile under the same user name that I use on all the other forums I'm a member of.

Heres a Picture of the Hurst Shifter and Hurst Boot I had at the time I commented on this thread. It was a pretty good setup and I liked it but I found a Real Short Throw Mechanism and a Shifter I liked a lot better that I run now. It shortens the throw about 25% and it uses the Stock Shift Boot and the Plastic Boot Retainer. I attache a picture of the setup I have now to this thread too but I don't have a picture of it in the truck. I'll try to get a few pictures tonight or tomorrow and post them up.

I just pulled the bushing and stub piece the busching is around. Wire wheeled the rubber off cut the shifter rod down a bit and welded the stub piece back in solid. Feels ratchety I like the stock knob. Its noisy but only above 2 grand plus I like the noise. Dont hit the dash anymore either or miss gears.
