i wonder if anyone has tried making a steel intake ?

I wouldn't c why not u can still maintain the weight savings by utilizing much thinner material. Plus I would have a third of the time in a steel one rather then the aluminum.

what if you extended the front legs further forward closer to Cyl 1 + 2...just move the fuel lines....?

Yes u can. That was the only issue. Being the fuel line. I did not want to redo fuel lines. But I don't believe that with the amount of air moving in with the one I built I don't think u will notice. Mine is only about 3/4 inch off from a direct route
