Craftsman 5.4HP vertical compressor.

Kat got me a top-drawer 175 PSI 80gal 240v oil-type V-twin compressor for the garage about a year and a half ago.

This is a $1000+ compressor, and the best that Sears sells of this size.

It's already dead with very few hours on it. Warranty was 1 year.

Plenty of oil, yet it appears to be seized.

Yeah, it needed a warranty call the day it was installed for a leaking safety valve IIRC.

Well, Sears just left. The electric motor is bad.

$809 to fix it.

I asked if they send me flowers after they are done fk'g me, they said no.

I'm easy, but I'm not THAT easy. I'll find a motor myself and fix it.

Watch the specs on the replacement motor. There is a "compressor duty" rating which is really lame. A 3 HP compressor rated motor actually has a much smaller real HP motor of maybe 1.5 or 2 HP.

I found that motor on Globalindustrial for around $301-309; depending upon frame. I would look for the replacement motor for the equivalent Emglo. Our shop Emglo is 30 years old and still running strong. The original tank wasted away but the motor and pump are great.

To bad you are so far away Pat, I just upgraded compressors to a 120 gallon Ingersol and my 80 gallon is sitting on the trailer. It just ran to much for me when using the plasma and 1" impacts

Yep. They almost all come from the same place anyway. Only a few made here and they are hard to find as replacement pieces.

That sux that sears wont help ya out. Also sucks you buy a good product and it fails.

I would be on the horn to any and every sears manager to see what they could do.

Its not like you have public forum to bash them on HeHe..

Well, I found an electric motor shop in Riverside that sells parts, and bought a "run capacitor" for $16.

It now works correctly on the bench, I'll see if I can test it on the compressor this weekend.

I would have bought the capacitor from Sears, but it was a 2+ month wait and cost $110.
