Cooling upgrade

Alright guys iv owned a diesel for 2 years now I don't know much. Iv never had anyone teach me a thing everything I know iv taught my self by watching videos and reading forms. I just bought a 04 chevy 2500hd 6.6 duramax. Even though in my car fax report this truck hasn't had any over heating problems. But I don't wanna take any chances is there an upgrade coolent system I can put in my truck to help stop or prevent this problem? Thank you.

Then clean out the cooling stack (radiator/IC) of all the dirt and bugs and crap that has accumulated.

FYI, carfax is for accidents, here is basically how it works:

You're in an accident involved with another vehicle.

The officer takes all the necessary information including the VIN.

The company "carfax" obtains this information from a data base and reports the vehicle has been in an accident, does not state amount of damage just an accident.

So your mechanical overheating issue would not be on a carfax, what you're thinking is a TSB issued by GM.

Do the basic maintence 1st. Like posted above, pull the radiator out and clean all the accumulated bugs and crud out of the radiator, intercooler, condenser, and trans cooler. Replace the fan clutch while your there as they are a maintence item that should be done every 75-100k miles. Put in a set of ac delco or oem t stats. DO NOT cheap out here as the aftermarkets can cause cooling issues. The factory upgrade of the 06 intake system is a good investment, but a cold air intake system(an actual cold air intake, not a drop in or pulls from the engine compartment setup) and an s&b or afe mouthpiece is also good, and doesn't require a retune. An exhaust, egr blocker plate, and custom tune would be the next step after that.

Maybe I missed it? It's showing overheating on the gauge right? Does the upper radiator hose get hard and stay hard after sitting for 3+ hours after shutoff?

Edit: nevermind your trying to prevent overheating.

No its not over heating I would like to prevent this problem. I drive 2 hours to work in the morning and 2 hours home 6 days a week. Along with towing for work durning the day. I want to upgrade before this becomes an issue and I'm replacing heads.

Since you just got the truck I would do a coolant flush, clean the bugs and crud out like suggested by Tom and put a good quality coolant back in. Don't mix different coolants btw.

Also when you decide it's time to change the injector, you might as well do them all since they are a pita to get to. Brent@LDS should be able to get you taken care of in that area. He is very well priced and good quality parts.

Thank you on the coolent suggestions and that was my plan for the injectors there no since on just doing one of them since your already gunna be in there do all of em and you don't gotta worry. And I'll most likely do the coolent next weekend when im off from work and got nothing better to do.

Ignore what I said about the mouthpiece and intake since you have an LB7. Also LB7's historiacally tend to not overheat if the cooling system is up to par. 04 LLY's DID have issues, so I ASSumed you had one of those from your post. Make sure the cooling stack is clean, I would do the stats because by now they are probably starting to leak by coolant anyways making it take longer to warm up, and do the fan clutch.
