im new here and need some help. i have a 2005 2500hd and the issue is with the coolant tank i keep having antifreeze coming out of the overflow tube when the truck is idling and after leaving the block heater plugged in all night and the next morning there will be antifreeze on the ground from the tank. there is no air bubbles in the tank while the truck is running and the coolant is clean and the oil has no milky look to it and i have also replaced the pressure cap and it stopped for awhile and now its doing it again but the cap did come from oreily autoparts so it could be junk but i dont know. any help would be great. thanks

No, you don't want it to be rock hard. Should be easy to squeeze. Get it to running temp, park it and don't plug it in. See what the hose does in am. How long have you had this problem? And you checked the clamps on the overflow tank? Make sure all hoses are ok?

No one has worked on the cooling system before this?

i will do what you said and see what happens. and the problem has been going on for about four months now and i did have some work done to it at the chevy dealer they did a water pump, egr tube was leaking and was replaced, exhaust manifold was replaced cause it was lacking power and would not build enough boost. but this truck does it worked hard when camping seasons start i pull alot of trailers and fifth wheels with it almost everyday and then in the winter it gets a plow on it. but the guy that drove it before me pushed it way to hard and over heated it numerous times

Yeah that's what I was figuring. Odd that the coolant color isn't changed any. To early to diagnose but sounding more and more like head gasket. Have you tested the oil at all? See what is all present in it.

It wasn't having this coolant problem before the water pump repair?

before the repairs i did not ever look for it by the tank cause the issue was coolant was leaking off the back of the motor and coming out the bell housing which was that egr cooler tube. and how can i go about testing the oil?

Send a sample into a lab such as Blackstone or Polaris, tell them you suspect headgasket failure and they can tell you if there is coolant in the oil.

Is there any external coolant leaks on the motor? Checking the upper hose is a good place to start to see if there is pressure on the system. Overnight there should not be any on it.

If there is pressure on the system its headgaskets. If you have to replace them get an EGR delete pipe to remove all of the EGR components to avoid any more headaches with that system and also weld the Up-Pipe shut. You can use a blocker plate also if you choose but make sure it has mounts on it to bolt it where the EGR cooler was otherwise they like to break the flex bellow over time and will scare you silly when they do. I always just pull the pipe and weld it shut especially if I already have the cab off for headgaskets. Real easy to do then.
