Well My truck has started leaking coolant out from some place i cant see. The resivore has gotten low a few times and i can smell it when it is warm, but havnt seen it leeking. There is residue from the antifreeze getting sprayed by the fan on some of the parts around the fan, still cant see were its coming from though.
Then the other day it overheated when i was pulling a trailer up a pretty steep hill, once i got to the top I pulled over and let it idle and it cooled back down. But it wasnt low on fluid. Any ideas were it could be coming from?

Is the water pump hard to change?

if you get the truck hot enough that the thermostats open, and then let it idle, the cooling system may be pressurized enough to see where its weeping from. otherwise, like you said, the fan tends to blow it all over the place. you could also pressurize the coolant system using a compressor and a fitting for the reservoir.

water pump isn't hard to change but it can be time consuming depending on which way you choose to remove it. also helps to have the right tools.... :D

i know this much. when i parked mine after it was hot and shut it down, it would leave a puddle under the truck where it was bleeding out of the water pump.

check the rubber cooling lines coming off the pump too. the small one above th pump on mine had a crack in it. wasn't all the way through, but sure wouldn't have taken much.

is the reservoir pressurized at all?? coolant a nsaty color??

Also check the hard line that is sealed with a o ring next to the thermostats housing thats bolts down with one bolt.and leads back behind the generator.

I've seen it dripping off of the driver side of the motor under the truck, but only one time.all the other times I've turned it off when it was warm it never leaked, that i could see.

hey check the pass. side of the engine.. Pull the plastic piece out of the inner fender well on the pass. side. There will be a small plate that might be leaking.... Its not bad to change...
