Funny thing is that the factory converter is the looset unit out ther and it locks just fine under command. Think about it.

Excactly

it is a TCM issue. I have logged it on about a dozen trucks. The command simply is not given with big power/greater than 500 or so RPM slip (difference between turbine vs. input speed)

I believe you also Ben , but I think its a more dynamic issue and that aspect( tcm ) is one of them but other issue's still . Since when have you ever seen Mike post a "bait" post like above when he is unsure of the answer .

What are you seeing that leads you in the direction that its a converter issue for the most part?

Ben can you tell me all of the PIDS you are logging, because I want to try it on my LMM to see what my converter is doing. Some of the PIDS don't seem to work right. Just wondered if you had messed with the LMM ally pids.

Thanks,

Adam

adam Im not sure of the LMM stuff, Ive only logged LBZ 6-speeds. But basically you log Trans input speed, TCC slip, TCC duty cycle, turbine speed, Throttle %, Trans output speed, and vehicle speed (mph).

Being i sold my lbz and now have an lb7 with an ats 5-star converter, how many are having this issue with the 5-star? I know my ML converter locked everytime at the exact same time looking at my logs from an average of 10 passes and all in second gear. This trucks runs the same sotp wise and locks too with the co-pilot off. I'll change this one to the ml if the problem comes with it.

its been said that the ml/ precision converters do not have this issue.... havent spent enough time in or driving a truck with an ml converter to say that that is a fact

So far we have not seen this problem with the PI converter. If we do hear of one I want to know about it.
Big changes are coming in future PI converters. I have been running my truck with no input speed sensor for 3 weeks and lock up works flawlessly. We`have to work out a small electrical glitch but it operates perfectly.

Interesting.....I do have the co-pilot but really like the way the ml acted in my lbz. I'll be watching to see what comes of what your saying here Mike.

One set of clutches are being tested now and we have different ones coming for testing. You won't see anything written here about that because it is not time to tell you anything. You will see final results good or bad and nothing else.
Converters are out there; what do you want to know about them? High stall low stall, extreme high stall. We have converters built with Cummins staors that kick ass. Clutches take time to test so either wait or buy something else.:D

Here are a couple of screenshots from logs I made of my truck a year and half ago. The first one is a 4wd boosted launch with the copilot in race mode, and the second is a 2wd unboosted launch. They yellow line in the top section is the RPM. Notice how it doesn't really drop with shifts with the copilot turned off.

My ATS converter is sitting on my garage floor in a plastic bag.

Didn't matter what mode the copilot was in, or if it was off. I think Subman has a picture of my truck with two copilots in it even :D One was his zip tied to mine to see if my copilot wasn't working properly.

The 1054 works great for me.

are these converters with cummins stators what you are referring to in your previous post as big changes coming for the precision converters??

i just want something that locks up when it should and isnt so loose that with very fast spooling twins i'm reving to rev limiter in each gear (partially because its not locked)

No the cummins stator converters have been out for a while. They come in three standard versions. Low stall for twins and two different high stalls.
The new stuff coming out is being engineered right now. We will have a converter that will not go south after 15 passes for the big hp boys who are losing them off the line and the other converters will not require a core.:D

Please keep me informed Mike. You will be seeing me as soon as the twins are dne anyway for input/output and some other goodies... but I want to stick with an Allison at 1000HP!

OT Ben, but how did you get a trans dashboard like you have in your pics on the first page. Is there somewhere I can donwload that, or is there a way to create one? The only way I know to watch trans logs is on the data tab (F9)

as fort he TC not locking at full throttle, I have also been wondering if its a TCM issue. My truck does the same thing but intermittently.
It won't lock the TC unless its in T/H , then the next time I drive it will.
It always locks in TH. but when not in Tow haul its very inconsistent.
I also found resetting taps takes a long time to relearn, like 500 miles.
By that I mean the shift point reset to 2500 rpm regardless of speed ,APP, or load and gradually drop until its relearned.
Does that seem right
All of these issues arose after they flashed it for the extreme cold weather high idle her in Northern Canada.

Should it take 500 miles for the TCM to learn?

I fear my TCM or OS has been fried.
Everytime I take it to the dealer, its acting normal.
Some GM service foremen have tried to tell me the TCM has nothing to do with shift points relative to vehicle speed, and I hastily exited the premises...realising they would not be much help.

any idea's?
whats a TCM worth, do they come loaded with the OS?

Is it really necessary to reset taps with every change in the tune?
I find its a step backwards, and like starting from scratch.

I just have had some many inconsistant anomolies with the trans behavoir that I am chasing my tail already with out having the TCM relearn from the beginning every time.

I am running stock tune for a while in my process of elimination.

Thanks
