Computer help needed!

I am having problems with my Dell desktop computer ( im on my laptop now)

I had a virus.

So i ran superanti spyware and it got rid of it.

Now it wont connect to the internet.

I connect fine with my laptop so my connection to my house is fine.

When i run the diagnostic i get this message:

" Check the firewall settings for the HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) and the FTP port (21)"

I have NO idea what to do or how to do it, not very computer savy until ive done a paticular step.

So i really appreciate any help!

What operating system? XP, Vista, Windows 7??? I'm guessing that you have done a complete shut down and restart, not just a restart but where it turns off? That will completely reset the hardware.

Click Start >> Control Panel >> Windows Firewall (or yours might say Security Center go to the bottom and click on Windows Firewall) >> Select Off and click OK. Check and see if you can get on the internet. If it was already off are running any antivirus/firewall software (Norton etc).

Dont know What the HTTP ports are in the error message in my first post.

Those are standard ports that http, https and ftp use to access sites. If port 80 is blocked you are not going to any none secure sites, like here or any other forum. Most aftermarket software will close down all ports but the standard ones.

Are you running any other software like Norton Internet Security, Mcafee etc? I've see those freak out and will stop you also.

Your nastyware probably put a proxy in IE. Go to tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings and make sure nothing is checked.

Wrong, some hardware will not reset completely with just a reset only a power down will do it. Seen it way too many times.

Did you check the settings that cougar posted?

I don't suppose you have a copy of Firefox you could load and run on this computer? That would point to if it's an IE problem or something else.

Basically, what the malware you got did was installed a proxy server on your PC, then directed all internet traffic through it. By doing that, it could watch what you did, where you went, inject it's own junk into your pages, redirect you to wherever it wanted... all kinds of stuff. When you killed it, the app you used to remove it didn't remove the proxy settings (common occurance), so since the malware's proxy was no longer there, IE fell on it's face since it couldn't find the proxy, so you could no longer get on the internet.
