Well it's a done deal now...picked up a Western Digital Scorpio Black 7200 rpm 320gb drive. No memory yet...the place I purchased at was asking way too much for their memory sticks and I wasn't about to pay it. Computer is now solely running on Linux and I am LOVING it :happy2:

Once you go with a SSD you will never want a mechanical HDD again. Like going from dial-up to high-speed internet.

One thing you have to remember about getting the 7200 RPM HDD's is they do create a bit more heat. If you are just using it for file storage then a 5400 or 5200 RPM HDD would be better suited to the job. But if you are installing an OS on it, any of them is good. The 7200 RPM will be a little bit faster for boot up and loading games and programs. It would also be better for gaming. SSD's are great for their speed. That's about it. If your not playing games or using it for large file intensive programs (AutoCAD or others like it) on it then it's a waste of $$$ for a lot less space. This is just my opinion though.

Super happy with the WD...it makes a little more heat than my dead stocker 5400rpm did but boots amazingly fast and works like a charm. I kind of want to run an autocad program but will probably save that for the iMac since it's the big boy in the house
