I'm thinking I have a virus...my computer has slowed to a crawl and is acting all sorts of messed up...I've pulled the important info I want off of it. Wondering if reformatting and using a Linux OS would help...Considering dual booting windows and linux but wasn't sure if the problems would persist since I think it is a virus...I downloaded AVG anti-virus and comodo cleaning essentials...the computer is just acting WEIRD..won't recognize my wifi half the time, super slow to load...not starting in windows 7 starter...any advice is appreciated.

Ninite.com. Download malware bytes. Make sure it updates after you install it. Then I would run Microsoft security essentials also. Just do the trial on malware bytes and full scan. If there is a virus that should get it.

Yeah that was me at Pat's party last year.

It's widely known that owning a Ford can cause adverse effects on PC's. I think others will back me up on this. :thumb:

Honestly if you figure you got your important files off, or you keep them on a different hard drive than C:, Reformat. In the end you will be happier.

I'm going to try that and want to run Jolicloud...which is a Ubuntu based OS. I hope it's a virus. I would assume reformating will help that...not real good with computers lol

Reformating means you are starting from scratch, it erases everything and then installs new files. Then you need to re-install any programs that you had installed (office, itunes, EFI, etc).

Well do you have a copy of "Jolicloud" as you said you wish to use?

you will also want to maybe pre download most of the drivers you will need and have them on a flash drive it saves time in the long run.

Also Make sure you have backed up all the files you do not wish to lose.

Before you throw it all out with a reformat, you might want to try to load Ubuntu but not do an install. That way you can see what is happening on the original NTFS or whatever partition. I have salvaged computers before using Ubuntu. You could always do a dual boot machine with Ubuntu installed on a separate partition.

Just a thought....;)

If you are worried about the physical drive being the problem you can always download something like the Hitachi Fit Test which will put the drive through its paces to make sure everything checks out. Otherwise the format will whack the virus.
