so, my laptop monitor started acting a little funky a few months ago. it would go black every now and then, but i'd just tap it and it would come back on. now it goes blank and i have to almost twist the monitor off just for the display to stay up. once i take pressure off the monitor, it goes black. so screw this thing. what do i have to do to switch my truck onto my girlfriends mac?? thanks in advance. -Garrett

Sounds like your screen inverter or your back light lamp are going out. It's probably your inverter which any PC repair shop can replace. Or you can do it if you have a little nerd in you. What's the brand/model of your laptop?

Yeah sounds like either a backlighting issue or possibly the cable plugging into the motherboard may possibly have a back connection. Might want to pull the keyboard off and take a look. 90% of the time you can see the connection with the keys out of the way.

As far as I know the MAC isn't compatable with EFI yet. But I guess you could dual boot a MAC to run windows as well. Been awhile since I've done it.

but found this article you might find useful to give a shot. Just make sure and backup your mac before you do anything.
I do remember using Boot Camp back in the day but I'm sure its changed quite a bit.

and a newer one for windows 7.

i'm not by it now and i can't remember which model it is right off hand, but i did take it apart thinking it was just a loose connection or a bare wire making contact somewhere, but i saw nothing. i took the WHOLE thing apart, and nothing. it's definatly in the monitor because i disconnected it from the bottom and it did the same thing while it was plugged in. either way, i'm over trying to fix this thing myself. will a cpu shop give me a break since it's all apart already, or do you think they'll be pissed? also, i have no idea what places like that charge, so any ideas would be appreciated. if i can't fix this thing cheap it's goin' in the dumpster. this is the third hp laptop that's screwed me in the last two or three years.

its kinda like bringin your truck to a auto shop with the top end torn down (little exaggerated) but they wont like it and my charge more as they dont know what you have done inside, where screws go, or is something else may have broke while you were takin it apart

so i still need to know what to do to switch my truck to another computer. i know there's only about a billion of you guys with EFI live on here, i'm sure a few of you have ad to do it a time or two. thanks in advance. -Garrett

You just need to install EFILive on your new computer and you are right to go. You should install EFILive directly from our website, given there has been numerous software updates in recent times. All the licenses are saved within FlashScan.

If possible you should try and recover your tunes and logs from your old laptop if that's where you saved them.

If you are using your GF's Mac you will need to install a Windows emulator like parrallels.

Cheers
Cindy
