COmpound S480 or S475

Does the difference is notifiable ? worth the 350$ more than a S475?

I'm only towing a 10 000 lbs fifth wheel and daily driver.

unless you are trying to get the most out of the twin kit, the 475 will do just fine.

What James said. How much power are you trying to get out of the truck, and what is your purpose for going with twins?

If y are just doing stock over 475 it would be decent, but what I have found and many others.. is that when you actually increase the size of the atmosphere turbo it actually ends up driving nicer as it is easier to "breathe through".

Think about it this way, essentially the atmosphere turbo is a restriction to the "valley" turbo so when you make it easier to pull air by increasing the size it makes drivability ALOT better, rather than making it work for it.

from box stock 475 to box stock 480 (which are the prices im assuming he is listing/looking at), i never saw the increase in valley turbo spool up. the cast wheels/covers they come with are not open enough to really give you a change. now you add a race cover and a billet wheel, i would agree. the 483 i am running now is just this way

You might consider going with a smaller turbine housing than the standard 1.32 if you are doing it more for towing than all out power.

On a LML I’m using a billet wheel 475 with 87 turbine and 1.30 stainless v banded housing. Main purpose was instant spool and towing abilities. The truck on stock fuel makes 700 hp and sounds like no other. It’s a really fun truck to drive. I will try and post a sound clip of it driving off. Total boost is 59 psi. I have plenty of high hp trucks but this one is so pleasant to drive.

They also make t6 housings for the 87/80 turbine. That would be an excellent option for most people. As long as you make/purchase a kit with a t6 flange, you will have the flexibility to swap dozens of different s400 combinations out.

My daily driver has a 65mm vgt in the valley and a 485/96/ T-6 1.10 as the atmosphere, I used the 1.10 as I already had it laying around. I'd use the newer 1.15 if I didn't, its more cost effective and a REALLY nice housing for the same purpose.

It made 1132hp at the tire on my chassis dyno before I quit turning it up. It drives like stock and tows absolutely awesome!

No way is 65/85 going to be worth a chit on stock fuel.... Compared to a stocker/75, I have ran several versions on stock fuel and hands down the 75 over stock was the most versatile and fun. Now built eng is another story...

I never said that setup was on stock fuel obviously at 1132hp.

BUT, truth be known.. I did run it on stock injectors dual pumps only.
and it was great. as good as stock.

Ifyou read it correctly, I'm just saying how the housing size makes a big difference on the atmosphere turbo.

but what do I know about turbos :thumb:

depends on how big the pulse width is. my modded ihi/83 ran just fine on a 1.32a/r and stock injectors. i did/do run dual pumps and the tow tune was 3250uS though :roflmao:

im actually about to swap the 83's housing down to a 1.15 though and see how it does. 6th gear doesnt like to light off the 83 at 1800rpm like the 75 would.

Are you gated around the 65? I thought the 65 was to much of a restriction to get over 950hp.

Assuming the cam & head & compression ratio differences are not extreme, most people with 'built' engines could put their air and fuel setup on a stock long block and they wouldn't know the difference. And vise versa.
