I Just got a new phone number right after Thanksgiving, and apparently, the person that had the number before me has some collections thugs after them. I told the tardballs last week that I just got the number and I have NO clue who they're looking for.... The person said it was automated and that the number would be off the system within 48 hours. Well, they've still called me every day since, and I'm pi$$ed. If they call me one more time, does anyone know how I can go after these F-Tards for harrasment under the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" or SOMETHING? I'm not sure I can go after them under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act since it's not my debt, but I'm throughly pi$$ed off that these tards keep calling me and wasting my time.

I feel your pain  I get collection calls for Pat's Ex-Wife all time  I have no clue where these guys get their info. The phone is in my name so that isn't even a excuse.

Do like i did one time. I kept getting phone calls and tried telling them i wasn't the person they were looking for. They would always tell me what company they were calling from so i told them i knew what city the company was located in and i could be there in about 4 hours and i was sure i could find their office. I almost instantly got a dial tone and never heard from them again.

Record the calls.
Send certified letter telling them you are not the person, and to stop calling or you will take legal action under the fair debt collection act.

wait for more call, record...

Sue.

Profit.

Had the same thing happen to me. They called about 6 times a day for someone named steven. He must have been giving out my number as his own because I searched who had our number before and it was a different man. I finally had enough and started threatening to get a lawyer against them and they stopped.

I had the same thing happen to me. I got calls a couple times a week, the person they were looking had the same last name as me but that was it, did'nt even live in the same town. I finally told them I had been lying to them and I was in fact the person they were looking for and I would never pay them what I owed. I told them to take me to court or what ever they had to do that I would go to prison before I paid them. They never called back.

If you find you can't stop them under that law, use a sports/alert air horn. I'm not joking. After a couple times of getting blasted in the ear, they'll get the hint.....

or you'll at least get some enjoyment out of it.

Got me once just by the chance the one they were looking for was named Chris. First call the ask "Is this Chris ?" As soon as I responded yes a guy and a girl (same 2) alternated calling for 2 months. Apparently the guy had ordered a sh*t load of magazines and owed this place like $175 or so. They finally stopped calling when I made it to the point of creating my own profanities, that and I simply told them to sue, collect, whatever made 'em feel froggy since I knew the only contact info they had for me was a work phone not even registered to me.

You can tell these people they have the wrong person until your blue in the face, they just say, yea right. The best thing to tell them is yea I'm him, sue me and goodbye.
