Did LB7's have intake heaters. My truck is a franken truck composed of many different parts from all models of duramax and even some other random Chevy parts. So maybe when I put some LB7 intake parts on I noticed the coil that hung down... there was a single wire going to the terminal on it I beleive. I'm thinking it was on the y-bridge.

Anyways, besides the glow plug cycle, what can I do to the timing? I'll have to check if I'm running stock timing at idle. I might have the cold coolant temp modifier changed to not add as much timing because I hated the sound it made when it had a rough cold start. Could that be the cause of my smoke?

Correct there is a heater coil that runs 12 volt power to it on lb7s

IIRC llys do not do anything for IAT from factory but there is a table and timng ECT is used from factory if your timng is changed then you may want to adjust the ECT timing.....Will it help, I dont know

Fingers would be a better person to help on this

Idle smoke or running smoke?

I have found that EFI does not change the idle mode values. You have to prevent the idle mode and then adjust the main table for idle.

Mine smoked a lot last winter, but since I had the head gaskets done, so far this winter, I haven't had the big white fog.

When cold, hook up the scan tool and use the dvt option. Up the rail pressure and see if the smoke is reduced. Make a note and then adjust accordingly in the fuel pressure coolant temp settings. This is a help for bigger sticks. For heat, I like to play with the timing tables too help. Between the two, I have had good luck with barely any smoke on our 15 to 1 compression engine running larger than 100% injectors in 30 degree temps.

I think my 02 has been smoking since it got down in the 20's here in Seattle but didn't notice it until I left the garage door open and filled the garage with smoke and set off the smoke detector. I immediately thought injectors but having read some of your other posts I'm going to go with normal behavior. After it's warmed up it burns real clean and has tons of power, no missing or odd behavior. I'll definitely check for fuel in the oil though as a precaution. Thanks for all your input.
