Cold weather, glow plug dtc's and +10 injector

The temp recently dropped into the 20's and has been throwing codes P0672-6. I ordered a set of glow plugs but noticed that #5 is now showing +6 to +10 on the balance test on my Edge. The balance test was always good just a few weeks ago.

Should I order a new injector or is there anything else to check? Fuel rail desired and actual are showing 4.3k at idle. Where would #5 injector be as well?

I set my tune back to stock, filled up my tank and added double the normal Power Service and some 2-stroke oil. It also warmed back up into the 50's and the injector is down to 2.8. I guess I will watch is close for now. I question my last fill up at a remote gas station.

Was the truck warmed up to normal operating temp when you checked the balance rates? A good additive + 2-stroke oil can mask a potential injector problem so I would keep a eye on it! You could (I would ) run the GM recommended injector cleaner ! Worth a try.

There is a thread about it here. If I find it I'll post a link

OP get this stuff in the link and also read post #11 and follow that link as well, there is a whole HOW TO and its great, i did it and all my injectors dropped down about .5-.8 each i was pleasantly surprised.

and yes a sketchy fuel station could have had some nasty fuel in it you never know.

edit: and dont dump it into your tank apparently its corrosive to some of the plastic in the tank and line fittings

With PPE on level 3 I'm experiencing a knock/tick under moderately hard acceleration. Stock programming you really have to get on it to hear it. Sounds kind of like a leaky exhaust manifold but it's not that. It's this fuel knock from a stuck injector. After coming off the highway the #5 injector is still plus 7-9 and then drops to 3-5 after a few seconds.

Update
Found that the connector to the glow plug controller was loose. This cleared the glow plug problem, but the ticking kept getting worse. I could easily hear the sound coming from injector #2 which had a perfect balance rate of .01. I changed it anyway and found the o-ring disintegrated and I signs of exhaust leaking.

I tried to clean out the bore as best as I could with a vacuum hose taped to a piece of fuel line and brake clean. The ticking is all gone now and it seems like it has more power.
I think I just need a new washer and o-ring and I can swap this injector into #5?

After 2 days of driving all of my balance rates are within +- 1. I'm just going to sit on the core charge and keep this injector as a spare after I clean it up. I guess one bad cylinder can cause all kinds of erratic balance rates on other cylinders.

Of course it can and will as it is trying to compensate for the one bad cylinder. Pulling and adding fuel to get a idle.
