Steel does become more brittle as the temperature decreases, but I dont let of the go pedal any sooner just because of that!:thumb:

I've raced in the cold and found it hard to get traction. Was in the low 40s I think. Our engines like the cold air though (to a certain point).

My best time was in the colder weather. About 45 out. Ran my big tune only once and got a 8.31. My 150 tune I got a 8.36. In the 1/8th mile

If you have a clean surface, consider yourself lucky.

I have run my truck (after warming the engine) at -45*F with a hot tune. The elevation was ~1600', and the truck had cold soaked all night, I had a block heater, electric battery blankets, and oil pan heaters for the engine and trans. The air density was AWESOME. The truck was running like a scalded hog, but I was worried about the axles....no way to warm them up. And there is always the potential for black ice on the road in Tok, Alaska.

You do have to be careful with timing rattle at lower temps.....

As long as you can hook up, you are good to go. My truck loves cold air. But cold roads and cold tires means I have no way of putting that extra power down, and I just end up sideways.

I would say it depends on your power level. If you have enough power that your running slicks, good luck heating them up or running on a 40 degree track:) If you're not in need of slicks I say as cold as possible.

I just went out and did some test runs in the snow to get ready for Sunday. J. Casey, has anyone got official word from the track about that minimum temp?
