I recently came up to ND for work...its a little nippy up here (0*) and lower, my truck has had some bad defuels everytime it shifts. Its real bad on tje 1-2 2-3. It feels like it wants to shut off. Thae trans gets up to opetating temp, thecoolant only goes to aboot 140... as soon as I hit the cold cold weather it started acting funny....my fuel filter head is leaking too ..... motor runs smooth its just that defuel. Any tips for cold weather?

Maybe an air dam would help? It would allow the trans fluid to get warmer, and possibly make a smoother shift

Maybe?

140 coolant temp is cold. I had a problem with t-stats and my coolant temp was around 140 and it acted really funny in single digit+- weather. Find out why your coolant temp doesn't get to operating temp first.

A winterfront will help a lot also

Cold weather & Altitude can be hard on tunes... Sounds like it is stuck between temperature maps... Put a winter front on if you haven't already, or some card board and see if that helps. You might need your tune reworked for that altitude???

How's Dakota compared to Sin City?:D

I'm changing a belt on a APOS. 05 CUMMINgS 15 minute job is taking me an hour sofar lol.fingers get cild real quick. I haven't even tjought of trying the stock tune. I put some cardboad infront of the whole stack and definetly helped the trans but thermostats are sorta working sometmis it does get to operating temp. Sometimes it doesn't. I wad thinking of pulling the maf sensor and seeong if its got any crystalized water on it

After 2 N. Illinois winters in an LLY and 8 with the LBZ I can tell you this much. If it's below 20* F just keep a light foot on it. The grief of going into defuel (and attendant worry if you broke it ) aren't worth it. It's cold and the #1 blended fuel is crap. It will eventually warm up and good fuel gets delivered with it. That'll make it much better...

Try the stock tune Joe and see if it stops defueling...

Get used to it being cold. They won't warm up much unless your driving. I was kind of looking at the mishimoto high temp t-stat for winter and the low temp ones for summer. My truck is a cold blooded sob at anything below 20F. Maybe the high temp t-stats will help?

I turned it down to my somewhat stock tune. And the defuels are a lot lighter. I drove around for half hour and it sorta warmed up and ran fine. No defueling. I really don't feel like dockong atound with it right now.I haven't really opened it up since I feels sluggish and my commute doesn't give it enougj time to warm up.

Are you plugging in the block heater at night, or even an hour or so before you leave?

With mine I have the winter front on and when the temps are below 5*F I plug it in. I have it on a timer so that it comes on3 hours before I go to work (saves on electric bill too) and it starts up like it is a warm day. I also uses the high idle for at least 10 minutes. I also drive it like a grandma because I can tell that the fluids are cold. Tranny will usually get to 120*F and the engine to 180*. That was today on a 10 mile drive and a temp of 8*.

Yes, she gets plugged in every night. I'm running a crap load of diesel 911 so I font have to dral with it gelling on me. I had some minor leaks and boy does the cold make them 10 times worse.my poor baby went into shock with this extreme weather change.

Any time mine gets put in park it goes into high idle. I think my fan clutch is bad, you can just hear it pulling air even though she's cold. I need a heaed garagefor my baby

As in the 911 the red bottle? You don't want to use that evey tank. That's only for emergencies. You want the white bottle.

I put about 8 ouncees in 20 gallons and still haven't used up all that fuel. I figyered out why its defuelung. The leak on the fulter head. When its in the negatives it woyld make it worse and cause it to suck more air. Rebuilt the head and now she's asgood as new. I knew she was leaking but never imagined tge cold would make it as bad as it did.

the 911 is really hard on the injections system, and is more for water in fuel than fuel waxing. Use more of #1, and a normal cold weather additive. Keep clean filters on hand-and I keep an extra 10 micron filter just in case I have issues so I can swap it out and get home
