Cluster "Wake Up" repair question

Over the past year my cluster has been pulling the whole "takes a while to wake up" low voltage issue that they're sometimes known to do. Lately it's getting worse and I've been meaning to repair it. I've already done the re-solder to fix my PRNDL display and it worked fantastic. I have been trying to find the other repair for this voltage problem but typing in anything involving our clusters into Google pulls up hours of articles that do me no good. If I recall it was a voltage transistor or regulator that someone replaced to fix it but I just cannot seem to find that article or repair. Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm a repairer not a replacer.

Stepper motors?

No it's not the stepper motor issue. Surprisingly with 220k miles the steppers work great. It's on first key up after the truck sits. The cluster wakes up then shuts off, wakes up, shuts off, etc until the glow plug draw is off the electrical system. I can keep it from doing it by keeping battery voltage above 12.5v but having only one battery doesn't help much. I swore I read a thread where someone had repaired a voltage regulator/transistor in their cluster for this problem.

Have you checked for any blown fuses? I cannot recall which fuse it was but it was blown, not causing any other issues other than the cluster to take awhile to wake up. Then when it did wake up, all was fine till the next key cycle.

There is a reflash available for the 03-04 clusters that lowers the "turn on trigger voltage" threshold.

Its a software issue, not a hardware issue...

No fuses out that I'm aware of. I've seen that updated calibration and before I left the dealer I made sure all of my modules had the latest updates in my pickup. Unless they changed it again in the last year I'm under the understanding that I have the most current calibration installed.

Battery is testing great and is a few months old. I would assume most people running a single battery don't have this problem though? The problem has started happening this past month.

Edit: I meant the problem has gotten extremely worse this past month haha.

I finally did find the thread with the regulator repair, unfortunately the pictures are corrupt and the member hasn't been back on in a few years.

I have 2 interstate batteries and a new alternator and mine does it. I really don't think it is a voltage issue at least in my case unless I have a ground or power problem to the cluster. Mine the truck has to be running for a couple seconds and then it powers up and works perfectly.

Fixed!! :D Work was slow so I disassembled the cluster and had another go at it since the last time it was apart. Found some weak/broken solder joints on the board that weren't the normal ones for the PRNDL. A few were the resistors marked '240'. Reflowed all of the joints and it fires up perfectly! No random giberish popping up on the display either. Guess I'll order a new cluster fascia and fix my burnt out bulbs while I'm at it.

Lol after all the pics my auto teacher in high school showed me of serious burns to the face from not wearing a helmet, I try to use mine every time. Even wear my leather welding jacket in the middle of summer when I'm welding upside down. The sweat is worth it to keep slag from burnin me up lmao

For sure. I hate the welding sun burn you get from not protecting your skin. The main problem I run into is trying to get my head in tight spots welding exhaust. I need to get one of those small welders masks for situations like that.
