I've got an 03 with a LLY in it, full conversion, and I have a intermittent grabs temp, and non working tach and a fuel gauge reads opposite direction..

Is a 05 dash cluster the fix? Some help would be appreciated.

http://gm-stepper-motors.weebly.com/index.html I order a motor to replace the speedometer. need to replace volt and oil pressure now that they have failed. but has worked great ever since replacing speed motor though. he is a good guy to deal with emails back when you email him. so I will be ordering more motors through him and possibly the lights that go in there too.

Yeah Stepper Motors, I had my speedometer die on me, while traveling, my tach went as well, replaced all but my battery one, and now it needs to be replaced, as the needle is bottomed right out into the bezel lol, I also changed my lights while I was in there, the only crappy part about the whole process, is that you need to unsolder the motors and lights and then put them back on.

The fuel gauge is easy. They swapped how the sensors work after the LB7, so all newer ECUs will read backwards with the LB7 sending unit in the tank. You can either put a newer sending unit in the tank (which might not fit, thinking about it), or even easier/better, just re-scale the gauge in the tune. Any tuner should be able to do that for you. If you have EFILive, we can walk you through it. It is pretty easy.

Soapyjr did you do the swap yourself? I'm fixing to start putting a LLY in my 03 and have a few questions

@DIRTYLB77 no I just purchased the truck, guy before me did, nearly ran it out of fuel on route home thinking I had full tank... Talked to a few buddies who have dmax' sand they told me this was a common swap and if he did the head studs and top end gaskets that it was a good swap.

@DAVe3283 No tune as of yet, still fairly new to the game... What are tuner options to stay away from? What are suggested? What are good but don't require a donation of vital organs?

If you just want an optimized stock or heavy tow tune, plus the fuel gauge re-scale, most any tuner will be able to provide you a good tune. I had an Adrenaline Truck Performance (IdahoRob) tune when my truck was otherwise stock, and it was good. You really can't go wrong with the vendors on here, though. They are all good.

I did an LB7 to LLY swap a few years ago but it was an 04 LB7. My fuel gauge was backwards also, can be fixed via EFI. I'm not sure on the gauge malfunctions, maybe check some grounding locations. Talk to Mark at Danville performance if you are looking into purchasing tunes.

Check local junk yards. I took one out of the truck I got the motor out of at a junk yard. I only had to use the center section of it, not sure if that's what you need or if you need more then the center?
