Looking at buying an 04 lb7 crew cab. I noticed a slight clunk when taking off after complete stop. Won't do it unless come to complete stop and doesn't do it every time. Feels like getting bumped from behind. Tranny shifts and drives great other than that. Thoughts?

Transfer Case probably has a Hole in it,and lost most of the fluid.. When I bought mine it had a small bump, which then got alittle worse... I took it to a tranny shop and they said they were unsure of the problem.. Even had my mechanic buddy look at it with nothing.. I finally got under it and started looking, Pulled the plug on the transfer case and very little fluid came out.. I filled it with 2 quarts or so,and the next day I had it sprayed all under the truck.. I heard to do the pump rub kit,or you can fix it with water weld.. I sanded and put water weld on it,and its still been holding..

will check that. I was looking around and guess there's a tsb about greasing the slip yoke or replacing with new version. Will have to check both

I used lithium grease (in the tub) last time I had issue and its been fine for at least year - year and a half. Im sure there is something better for application, but its what I had and seemed to work well.

Couldn't tell you. At the time I had just bought it and really had no idea how to maintain the truck. I had the mechanic lube it up when it was in for some other issues. I would have to look back in my service records.

I had the same problem... clunk when stopping...

It turned out to be the slip joint was gummed up.

Cleaned it up and the clunk went away.:thumb:
