Just looking for a little information on what people have used to clean the exterior part of the transmission. I'm building mine next weekend, and would like to clean it and paint it up nice. Any info would be nice, Thanks.

Great topic. Wondering this myself as I have a core 5 speed covered in grease sitting in my garage. I thought about spraying simple green or purple power and then pressure washing it. Obviously will need to protect the front and rear openings from getting wet?

Also... Is there any reason why it would not be ok to have the Trans powdercoated? Would it retain too much heat? Would ceramic PC be the way to go?

I was thinking about doing the same with some industrial strength Simple Green. I've noticed that purple power leaves behind a really thick residue on things no matter how many times you rinse it. Maybe get some of that Cherry Gojo and smear it on there for the thick stuff and just rinse it off? I will not have access to a a steam cleaner, or ultrasonic cleaner because It's a one day deal.

I always use a heated pressure washer with a simple green mix running through the machine to clean. Works great. I wouldnt recommend powder coating your trans unless your building it and have the case gutted. May not be to good on seals at 350-400* When mine was out I hit it with some flat black high temp spray paint and surprisingly it still looks good:D

Obviously gutted to have the paint or PC done.
