What could possibly be a legitimate reason to not want every truck teched every time. I mean if I wanted to cheat and I knew once I passed a thorough tech inspection that no one would check me again, I'd just make sure I was good to go that first time. I would thinking it's in everyone's best interest to have all of the trucks check every time as if they'd never pulled with you guys before.
The club I'm sure would love to tech every truck, everytime, and even post pull but logistics just doesn't allow that to happen.
A complete check (such as pumping motors, checking turbo inlet size, checking for ballast....lead poured into front sheetmetal pockets, etc etc.) is just not feasable with a volunteer group such as ours (not a single person is paid for what they do in general).
For one all teching is done by volunteers. Trust me I've said I was going to stop doing long time ago as I've been screamed at, yelled at, threatened, etc and I get nothing in return other than knowing I tried to make it better, but keep being asked to do it as nobody else wants to on a regular basis (other than Ralph). Many times it's time, weather, and space that make it tough to do a thorough check of each truck. Most of the time we are lucky to get a hitch height check and overall weight check. I will say that when a truck doesn't go over the scale (as was pointed out earlier in this thread), then we hear about it, or if someone is seen "adjusting" something after tech, so basic things usually don't get missed. Turbo size, hidden ballast, and things that are not quickly checkable or visually obvious often get missed. Bumps stops were brought up at one point as a few of the other volunteer techs were not checking them (and actually weren't aware they were supposed to for that class) and I can't be in two places at once, but people could easily see there was not an 1" of space (right in plain site) on SEVERAL trucks so I was asked to check. Some trucks were close (all it took was some redistribution of weight or a slight tweak to a traction bar to fix and probably weren't aware they weren't compliant) while others were SOLID and most likely knew it. They were told to fix or remove before being allowed for points/money. We hope people would not do illegal things, but it happens. Sometimes intentionally and sometimes not.
Sometimes things sound easy on paper, but aren't so easy in practical use. The club wants to tech every truck every time, it's just not practical considering our makeup.
