Try it with the Ranchos installed set to 9 all around & see what happens.

From what Ive heard the Caltracs are meant for 2wd vehicles & are more for weight transfer to get traction, something you don't really want on a on a 4x4.

caltracs, or any other traction bars, are essential to preventing axle wrap and wheel hop....even with a 4-wheel launch you still want your weight transferred to the rear to keep traction

rear squat

The rear will not squat when you take off with cal-tracs. The rear will seperate and you need good shocks to control that. Jeff

On the cal-tracs/no cal-tracs question....My LLY cut a best of 1.70 60' with cal tracs and the springs clamped(and without them clamped) and my LBZ cuts mid 1.6's without the caltracs and the springs clamped.

Both trucks ran the same ET, so not a power thing. May be the converter, may not, but I won't spend the money for Caltracs on this truck.

Just my .02

Full leaf packs, home made traction bars preloaded hard, 2" drop shackles. Skyjacker 8000 shock all around, front torsions dropped all the way. When I do spin I don't have any hop. I have gone 1.66 60' on worn 285-75 BFG ATs on PYOs and 1.68 on 255-85 Tempra trailcutters on PYOs. Even when I spin pretty bad on either of this tires I cut 1.71 or better. I tried out a set of MT ET 28x11.50s on 16x10 steel wheels today but the track prep was bad and the best 60' I got was 1.61, spinning out of the hole.

Chris runs full packs clamped to the overload up front. Torsion bars dropped all the way down and stock shocks all around. He has gone 1.71 on the 255s, 1.68 on the 285 BFGs and I don't know what he got today on 275 Toyo Proxes today but he kept spinning bad too.

We'll try to make it back out to the track this month on a day that it hasn't rained 2 days straight before hand and when they are running more cars and prep the track better. Hopefully he gets consistant 1.65ish on the proxes and I want 1.5s on the cheaters.

Mid Michigan
Bilsteins on all 4 corners
full springs clamped on front only
left Tbar down on stop, right side kept 1/4" up from stop
braced and sleeved
tires Ft - 35lbs, rear - 30lbs
worn 265/75/16 Michelin LTX on PY0s

normal 60' is in 1.77-1.79 range, but this weekend I was 1.72-1.74 all day. Was working on launch RPM. 2000-up is too much. 1900 seemed to net me the best 60' times.

I clamped both front and rear of leaf pack last week and got bad wheel hop. I went back to just clamping the front and my launches went back to normal. I usually just get a chirp at start.

I don't like going that low up front cause you end up just plowing a deformed tire all the way down the track - the rolling resistance hurts you. The other thing you can do is take a look at the marks you leave when you spin at the line. If the marks are more prominent from the outside of the tire (the mark from each tire looks like 2 strips) then you are too low and are riding more on the edges of your tires. Add until you get one solid mark. I don't like to have the front tires too deformed at all. Every tire is different though so test and tune sessions are the best way to get your ideal pressure.

Ditto............every tire is different.....and track prep is crucial with big-power trucks!
I ran Cal-tracs for a long time years ago and I have found that a simple trac-bar or spring clamps work better.
Based on your vid.....I'd guess that you had the Cal-Tracs 'un-loaded' and tire pressure was 'off'.
At least try to tighten or pre-load your Cal-Tracs next and play around with air pressure............should get you what you want.
Good luck, Ed.

I'll see if I can find two vids with air pressure difference as an example......

This is with rear air pressure at 22...(I think)
The point is .....I added 5 lb. air pressure for the next pass and picked-up one tenth in the 60'. That vid will follow.
I did everything the same at the line and noticed a BIG difference in traction by fixing my 'low-pressure' problem. I think it would have gotten even better with more air, but I switched to slicks that night and then sold those Proxes I was running..........so..........???
