Anyone know a good way or any tips to removing chassis rust? 1st winter down in upstate NY and my once southern truck is alreayd showing signs of surface oxidation. I was just going to scrap it, seal it and paint it...time consuming I know.

Any advice appreciated.

I use "Rust Mort" to convert the rust then paint. Either that or "Honey Goo".

A wire brush and a gallon of Chassis saver it's about 110 115 on line and it's some incredible stuff.Did my frame and it dries like a rock.Put down some plastic and wear some clothes you can throw away because it took 2 weeks and scurbing my skin almost raw to get it off.It comes in different colors to if someone wanted to color code it.Not sure home close the color match is but a nice option I guess.

i just sanded down everywhere on my under body and had it rhino-lined with the spray in truck bed liner stuff, my family member has a spray gun that does it and then put a gloss coat over top of it to make it not so dull looking. just something to think about

well it took all weekend, but it is finished and I think it looks great. I ended up using wire brush and degreaser first. Then went to steel wool and finished sanded certain spots after. once done with that to my liking I went over all of it with soap and water and then dried it thoroughly and then rubbing alcohol.

From here I used rust sealing primer (2 passes) I let that dry and then used rustoleum rubberized rust inhibitor/convertor. it took 2.5 cans. I did the ouide frame rails front suspension components, rear diff and crossmembers. I did not do the inside of the chassis (maybe later). looks great and hopefully will last a good while. I move back South soon which should help too:thumb:
