I just did the cat adapter. Its nice but kinda a pain in the @$$. Make sure you remove the check ball and use the cat filter only. I didnt use cats filter and found out that you need a different oring to seal it or it drops head pressure. The filter sticks to the adapter when changeing it and dont pay fot the spacer just get longer bolts and two nuts to fit over the bolts for spacers. Also you cant drain the water from the filter unless you remove the filter.

True but the micron rating is higher

That's why you run both. I prefer to let one type of filter do it's thing and the other what it was intended for.

OP, as far as lift pumps go, I have been running a BD flow max for about 5 years with out a hitch. The PPE died at about a year, Dan offered to look at it but I just never sent it in. Personally I think Fuelab Velocity might be the best pump on the market.

The donaldson filter is low micron and separates water.

If it doesn't have a drain on the bottom or a place for a bowl to drain water it's not a water separator.

I started running the Donaldson P553203 with the nicktane adapter. Never had any issues running the cat filters either.
