On a whim, contacted my friends Napa supplier, they have their equivalent filters but I think they are rated differently? Absolute vs nominal?

Nominal and Absolute ratings are more or less standard throughout most of the industry. Every filter manufacturer knows (whether they list that info or not) both their Nominal and Absolute ratings.

Cat filters however, use a beta rating as well as a micron rating. Cat refers to their filters as either Standard Efficiency, Advanced Efficiency, or Ultra High Efficiency. Cat Standard Efficiency filters capture particles 15 microns and larger. Cat High Efficiency filters use the Beta 75 absolute rating which means that 98.7% of the particles that are 2 microns or larger will be caught.
A Beta Ratio of 2 = 50% Efficiency Rating.
A Beta Ratio of 75 = 98.7% Efficiency Rating.
A Beta Ratio of 200 = 99.5% Efficiency Rating

Here are a couple of Cat fuel filter part numbers and their efficiency ratings
Standard Efficiency-----------Advanced Efficiency----------Ultra High Efficiency

Not for nothing but perhaps Nick, owner of Nick-Tane , that his profit margin is better with the Dondalson compared to the Cat filter?

I'm not saying Nick would steer you wrong ,I happen to know him, but take the info with a open mind and do some research not just a opinion unless he has actually supplied independent data to back up his claim that Dondalson filters are as good or better then a Cat filter of the same filtering specs.

Just saying no Stud here! :D

This is what I was referring to, not to slander Nick in any way shape or form, but it's very hard to make any sort of meaningful comparison when it's a he said she said with no empirical data to even reference. So interjecting in the middle of a thread just to throw in your pennies isn't really helpful at all.

I'd recommend against the CAT brand filter, I was told my a reliable source the Donaldson was better and cost less. I'm probably going to run the 2 micron Fleetguard version since the Cummins uses the same one, I think they go for $10-11 each.

Horrible wrong information.

Check a local dealer and get them cheap. You should be able to buy a box. The 1r0750 filter is a 2 mic nominal at 99% efficiency. Im just curious why you think they arent good?

Great advice.

I was told by "Nick Tane" that for the money the Donaldson was as good or better than the CAT 1R750 version, and if I was buying in bulk to not chase the yellow stuff.

Maybe the interwebs lied to me?

Because he makes the adapter doesn't make him the expert on filters.

Cat has much higher standards even compared to filters made in the same factories with different paint.

I wouldn't run a NAPA filter.

That's a little far for me! I'm sure there's one here in Fort Worth.

I second that about the Napa filter. Just this last week we put some Napa fuel filters in our 3512 Cat engines at work because our supplier was out of the Cat filters. We had problems with them starving for fuel until we got the Cat filters back in them.

Yeah I go to the Cat store here in Fort Worth on 820. Thanks TFD!
