I learned a valuable lesson this weekend. If your gonna build something your self make sure you overbuild it. I built a new hitch for this season and on the first hook of the season it didnt make it 150ft. :( At least I didnt come loose from the sled but I did get to test my bumpstops:D

Sounded good! That's why you font use the spare tire mount for bracing. It's a little short of "heavy duty". LOL

Later

The hitch wiped out the spare tire crossmember on its way out, Thats the only thing that kept me hooked to the sled. Took out the left rear shock also:eek:

What happened was I used a piece of 5" heavy duty C channel to make my mounting point in the frame rails. I figured the c channel would be stonger than flat steel plate. Well the force of the drawbar turned it into a pretzel and pulled it out of the bolts and then slid back into the spare tire crossmember doing a bunch of damage. Got alot of work to do now before smokin in the smokies.

ouch! AHH you don't need that spare tire x member anyway. Looked like a nice run too, live and learn right. A stout piece of 2x4 box steel welded in would be a bit better choice for next time, then run some tube gussets from it to the inside of the frame.

carange is never good but it does help us learn what NOT to do.
