In the last 6 months I have put 3 gearboxes on my ccsb . Stock one went out @190,000 , not to bad . I put a aftermarket cardone on it 2 times . 1st one leak out of seal after 3 months . 2nd one started grinding after 3 months . So I finally went and got a acdelco gearbox from gm, seems to turn better with this one than any of the other ones , so far . Wondering if anyone else has had this problem also .

I have an AC Delco sitting here waiting to go in, hoping I don't have the same problems. But I've heard that any of the aftermarket ones are junk.

Couldn't tell you how many CARDONES I've put on that were looser than the worn out gearbox I just took off. It's always fun having to adjust a supposedly just rebuilt part. that's why I bought an ARG for my BURB when it needed one, but even it needed adjusting brand new out of the box.

IMOP, all the rebuilt ones are junk unless you have a specialist do them (PSC, ARG, ect...). IIRC you can not buy a new box, they are all remans. I went through 2 napa boxes on my truck before i got one that finally didnt have a crap ton of slop. Did a customers truck that needed a new box and wanted Gm parts only. bought one from the dealer and it had just as much slop as the one in the truck. took it back for another (after a headache of an argument with them) and put another one in. it was better but not like a brand new one

You can still get a factory GM box, but when I was pricing them out a month or two ago, the list on one was $626. Compared to the $421 list for the AC Delco. I prefer factory parts, but usually have good luck with AC Delco stuff, so I went that route. Now I wonder if I should have just ponied up and got the factory box.

I figured I wasn't the only one having issues w it . The new one feels tight and good so far on a 20 hr road trip pulling a truck so hopefully new one will hold up

The ONLY reason i bought another box was i had the worm gear leaking out the top seal and when i replaced it, i over tightened it and after two years, it broke the cage inside causing some very weird steering lol.

at all costs, i try to keep the original but if the customer wants somethings besides what i suggest, ill keep them happy that way. you can usually get by with a slight tweek of the sector shaft mesh adjustment screw on the top of the box but like setting up rear ends. if you go too much, you can prematurly wear it out due to improper gear mesh. I do it by feel but even then its not something i go around doin on every truck. its a "trial" type deal.

Adjusting the sector shaft normally isn't that important, the one that is important is the one for the main shaft coming in. If that one is even remotely loose you will have some SLOPPY steering. I double check all of them I put in now.

x2 on all remanned boxes being junk. Im holding on to my stock original one as long as I can (200k miles on it and its still fairly tight). And when it does finally go out, im going to be replacing it with a low mile factory original one from a junkyard.
