Looking to put a tuner on my '07 Classic LBZ. I really want to do EFI live, but with a wife, kid, jeep hobby, and gun hobby cash flow is tight. Meaning $900-$1200 on a 5 position EFI is out of the question.

Who is running an Edge Evolution, PPE, or Quadzilla? I am really leaning towards the Edge as it has a built in display with gauges. I have heard the Quadzilla likes to run on the hot side of EGTs and has nasty feeling de-fuel between shifts. Not heard a whole lot on PPE. Who personally runs em and what do you like/hate about them?

Money is a big thing for me as I don't race the truck. So factor in extra cost such as gauges for those not equipped with them. It daily drives me to work and pulls my 6000lbs pig of a Scrambler on a 2250lbs 20' trailer (10400lbs rated) once or twice a month to go play.

I vote efi live find some one near you with efi live or send your ecm to a good tuner. I know you can get a dsp5 tuned ecm from dustin at diesel addiction for the price of a can tuner.

I like the edge with the built in gauges and if you go to efi live later i believe you can still use the edge to run the tunes in the ecm and you get to keep the gauges

Already said I can not afford EFI live right now. I know it's the best, but that is something that will have to wait till next year. Just dropped $1100 on new tires, $300 on airbags, and $300 on tow mirrors. I can get an Edge Evolution and Egt probe for $371 new from a close friend that buys wholesale and owes me a favor. That is 1/4 the price of the DSP5...

I say PPE if you want power. Edge if you want safe.

I have heard that the PPE makes good top end power where the Edge makes better low end. What is the comparison on the lower 2 or 3 settings? As I have a stock 6 speed Allison and will not be upgrading valve bodies till April or May next year. Does the PPE make better power all around and just not taper off in the top end like the Edge is said to?

I understand you can't afford to buy a efi live box for $799 and then pay some one to tune your truck. What I'm saying is you can still have efi live for less then the price of.buying the box and then paying someone to tune it. I believe I paid $575 to have my ecm shipped to a tuner and have him tune it and then he shipped it back. So you don't have the $900-$1200 cost that you are talking about. So you get awesome tuning for the price of a say PPE.

That the other problem. I can not be without a vehicle for 2 weeks. It is our only vehicle right now and at $575 I would still have to buy gauges. Who did your tuning and where are they located?

I bought my tuner, gauges, exhaust from members on other duramax sites, paid 200 for the tuner, 200 for the aluminized exhaust and painted with stove pipe paint, and 150 for pyro, boost, fuel press gauges.the pod is the only thing I had to get new and that was 20.00
you do not need a new tuner because most are loaded and throw under the seat, I have a predator it is ok I leave it on 65 all the time. I have kids and , If I want something for the truck I have to sell my own toys (per the wife)

I am in Hurst, Texas. Between Ft Worth and Dallas.

The truck had a Magnaflow cat back on it and a Banks intake with a Ram-Air box when I bought it. I added an EGR blocker plate an finger stick already and am about to do a PCV reroute and ditch the factory cat.

If your on a stock trans, have no intentions of upgrading or adding more power, then id buy a hypertech or another cheap tuner. anything over stock will shorten the life of your trans, specially towing. bearing that in mind, a little 40-60hp tune is all id run on your truck.

Trans go Jr , no matter what programmer you go with!!!! Cheap insurance IMO, find a local tuner and do a dsp2 with a 75hp tune and stock and run it till you save some cash, no need for gauges at that level. Just my .02

Sounds like PPE would be your best bet until you decide to have it tuned with EFI, trans-go would be nice, but not completely nessacary. You'll like it with the PPE tuner.

Im in burleson just south of fort worth and my buddy that lives in mansfield has efi live v2, i just bought the tuning, dsp5 and the license and had him flash it on for a few extra bucks. If you want i could ask if he wouldnt mind doin the same thing for you and what he would charge

Maybe ditch the cat, do the PCV reroute, and put in some gauges. Then later on down the road get a tuner or EFI Live. I have been running a PPE tuner for over 3 years, mostly on the 160 tune, but the smaller ones were nice too. I do think the PPE is a little soft down low though.

I can tell you for what a TGjr costs and the benefits, can't see why he should not do it, I know an Allison can take some abuse but for what he tows and the lack of funds to build a tranny and dd the truck, making it live as long as possible should be the main goal. We have done 500whp and countless BL's with a just a TGjr in an 07 and trans was never limped before built. I just would hate to see OP put a ppe or something else on and screw his trans because of so so advice, I love this forum and all but sound advice should be given considering his situation. Hope this doesn't twist anybody's panties!!!

I've had my PPE tuner since when the truck was practically new. Very happy with their products. Has never left me stranded on the side of the road. You can recalibrate for different size tires, diff gears, top speed, and clear trouble codes.
