As Bobby said I DD'd and towed (another duramax on a trailer) with a cast S480 with an 87mm turbine. It wasn't instant spool up but it was worth the wait when it shot from 15 to 60 PSI instantly and broke the tires loose from any speed. It isn't something I would recommend someone for a truck they towed with all the time, but you can tow with it especially if you live in a fairly flat area and can stay conscious while towing so that you can watch your EGTs and downshift or accelerate when needed. I also had a cam, headers, and stage 2 heads to help with airflow. A billet wheel would have made it spool a good bit better.

All that said an S366 can easily get you to 700 and will spool much better and be better for towing. A 466, 472, or 475 could also get you there while being much more streetable. What is the point of losing streetability by going with a turbo so much bigger than what you have the support mods to handle? A 480 single will easily do 900+ rwhp.

I run a HTT Billet S482 as a single. There is a lot that goes into making it work well on a street driven truck, and I haven't even figured it all out yet. But I will say this, get a good quality high stall converter, a custom grind cam, head work, headers/upipes, big injectors, dual cp3, and someone who has tuned for big singles before. without any of those things, you are not going to like it.

Right on the money. TCM tuning goes a LONG way for making it easy to run a big single on a DD truck that you tow with. And that is something that really needs dialed in on each truck and combo to keep you on top of the charger under moderate throttle. Precision has a converter that works amazing on big single trucks - it is loose enough to stall to 3300 RPM in 4 HI 1st gear but as soon as you are moving it couples hard so even at idle you can pull or back a trailer up hill. When you jump on it and the converter unlocks it will flash up to 3000+ RPM and give the turbo some initial spool then start coupling so hard that it will actually drag RPM and put a load on the motor to spool the turbo the rest of the way up hard.
