LB7: Can Cp3 make noise?

I am having a slight whining noise coming from the engine area. I thought initially it was coming from the power steering pump but I am starting to think it is something else. One reason I am thinking it could be the cp3 is I am having another issue as well. When I lay into the throttle, especially in 5th and 6th, I get slight stutters while its pulling. It still pulls hard, it just feels like it barely looses pressure and then continues to pull. No codes whatsoever. My plans tomorrow if I have time is to pull the serpentine belt off and check for the sound and then also monitor desired and rail pressure while I duplicate the stuttering issue. Just wondering for now if a cp3 could be making this noise.

I have heard water pumps whine, but I don't recall hearing a cp3. Sounds like your on the right path to diagnose. Let us know what you find.

My waterpump makes a swirling sound... If you can hear your cp3 watch the hell out lol

Yeah I've hear of the waterpump doing this but everything I found was with replacements, not ones randomly making sound. What kind of sound can the turbo make?

Check the big pulley in the middle for movement. They will make that kinda noise.

You don't hear of many problems with a CP3, but I lost one. The top CP3 (stroker) was making what sounded like turbo whine. I'd hear it with the radio off and thought that's what it was. After a few days of this and several 1/4 mile runs on a Fri. evening, next day on the dyno there was a loud bang and it froze up completely. One plug blew out and a hole in the other. Don't know if that would happen to a stock pump.

Any damage to the injectors? That's my biggest concern as I have read they can get metal shavings into the injectors. I was going to take the belt off today but it is really warm out and the truck wasn't making the sound. It seems more consistent when it is cold out.

No damage to the injectors. Pump failed on the low pressure side.

I have had the same stroker pump fail but on the high pressure side...luckily I noticed before it was totalled

I know its been a while but was the issue ever resolved. my truck is doing same thing. seems when truck is cold makes a whinning noise. or upon first start up and for a while after. its really starting to get to me. And i dont think its the power steering pump.
