Cam B

Notice the difference in lighting the charger... Also would carry more rpms down the track with cam b, and didnt seem to lose any on the low end, as it still loves to lug. With cam b the turbo lights as easy as my little gtx45 did last year.:D Just thought id share a little i learned this season. On another note, it won plenty of pulls on both cams, so they both had enough to get the job done.

I dont remember on those to specific hooks, but if anything was changed, it was more fuel up high. Nothing that would help light the turbo... I wanted to post a vid of the whole time i was trying to light the turbo, cause most vids Tim would start recording after i set on the line for 30-45 seconds. But i can assure you the difference was night and day, with no tuning changes at all.

Brand A, And Brand B :roflmao::roflmao: I really didnt want to bash anyones product here. I just know a lot of people claim cams in a duramax do nothing or are not worth it, i wanted to show some vids to prove otherwise. I can say that one was $1000, and the other was $250 if i sent a core.:D It was worth it for me, honestly the best 250 ive spent this year. The $1000 cam was originally put in the motor when it was built for the street, this one was more aggressive.

Would you be willing to at least post the brand of the cam that you are running now? It's always nice to know what parts work. Of course, unless "Brand B" is a secret.

I know Mark @ danville tested a few cams with tony b. a while back with socal and Curtis and Curtis's cam made more peak power. But that doesn't means it works better in all applications.

Nope your right. Thats why it comes in handy knowing what rpms your truck needs to be at. The lighting the turbo was enough to win me over though, i was tired of fighting that damn thing for a minute and a half on the line.

My only point of the thread was to say cams can and will make a difference between a win or a loss. Being in 4th gear at 50ft, compared to 100ft is huge. Even if the cam cost 1000 bucks, that is worth it.

Rob is right, there were no changes in the tune except Min fuel at high RPM. Need to fix drain issue and leaking injectors so next year he can make some more POWER...

Spooling for automatic fuel-only trucks is a beetch.

Tuning, charger, converter, trans temp, compression, Density Altitude (huge variable), tuning, air temp, injector size, and cam are all going have an effect.

At sea level (under 2000' DA) I can spool singles up to 80mm (GT45 for those in Rio Linda), but as the DA goes up, it becomes a serious issue. At 11,000' I can't reliably spool a 75mm (GT4202) on fuel-only.

What I really, really, REALLY want to see is what you see in the spark plug world. Comparative dyno graphs between cams so I can make an informed decision for my hotrod budget. AFAIK, this doesn't exist today because of how stupid expensive these kinds of tests can be.

I want to build the engine for max HP under the curve, because I can fix the spooling one way or another. Easy spooling would be a big plus for a cam, but I'd rather have more HP and loosen the converter.

We tested six different cams in my motor within two days and yes you can tell between the cams on a DYNO. We also tested injectors and tips and could tell the difference on spool-up.

Is there any graphs available for customers? I'm doing another engine and I'd like to make an informed choice, not a Wade-o-Meter or Hood Lift indicator decision.:D Specifically looking for max area between 2500-4500.
