Cam bearings

I am rebuilding my lly. I got it running but my oil pressure went to 68 psi at idle and puked oil from pressure relief valve. I tore the engine back down looking for a restriction, and the only thing that I can come up with are the cam bearings. I can't remember the orientation that the bearings are supposed to be. Can some one help. The motor is a 2005 lly duramax

68 PSI on a cold start isn't something to worry about. I see more than that. If that is a hot idle, though, then that is too high.

IIRC, the cam bearings are supposed to be oriented so the holes are at the top and bottom, straight up and down.

Ok thanks, have been looking for that info but haven't been able to find it anywhere! It's like it's protected by the secret service or something...

Are there oil feeds to the 1 and 5 (end) bearings the holes for the cam to crank gallery are lined up but I'm not seeing oil feed from the other side, which is the top side of the cam.

Did you have the Oring on the front cover where the bypass lets oil out of? I almost assembled my last engine without, dropped it while putting the front cover on.

I didn't see it during the last tear down, so I don't know if I forgot to put it in or it fell out when I got the cover loose. I thought that we were supposed to be around 13 psi at idle?

Normal oil pressure Hot at idle is anywhere from 25-32psi on all generations...stock. it takes roughly 22psi to allow the piston oil squirters to open.

Same. Hot idle is around 20. And it's in the high 20s to open the squirters

That's what i was concerned about cuz I never remembered my pressure being that high but I also put new clevite bearings in, so that could change it since u get ur pressure mainly from ur cam bearings

Is that your cold or hot idle? Was it fine and then went up?
