Do you want good or cheap? What all do you plan to do with it? If it's just simple 3D modeling, then just about any 3D will do. If you are going to do complex surfaces, etc, you will have a lot less headaches if you buy a higher level program. I use SolidWorks everyday for work. Easy to use. If you have to buy it yourself it, or any others, it will be pricey ($3-4000). If you can find someone with a work liscence or a student version, it will be free. You will need to look at the horspower required by the program to run on your computer. It's mostly the graphics card that will be lacking. I'm not a computer guru, but it seems like most of the good graphics cards for 3D modeling are the same ones that are used for gaming. The more complex the parts you are going to make, the more hp you need in your computer. The rendering of simple to moderate complexity parts will put an "average" computer on it's knees.

Hope this helps

Wow thanks for the heads up bud. I'm wanting to do 3D models for a truck project. I'm wanting to put a dmax in an S-10 and wanted to draw up some ideas for different frame designs and what not. I know in HS we used AutoCAD or something like that and had done up some pretty awesome (to me at least) fab designs and what not. Thanks man

Pretty decent renderings? Runs good on a normal computer? As in I won't need a ridiculous super comp to run it will I?

I use a few but AutoCAD works best for what I do (architectural/structural engineering design).

Its pretty universal too as far as using it in multiple industries.

If you can still download the student version or trial version of 2010 online, I happen to have a keygen hack to unlock the full version...:secret:

lol, I didnt need it because I actually had to pay for this license on this machine I use for work, but I have a couple other machines I wanted to run same version and not worth dropping another +3k on each machine. Let me know if you need it or anyone for that matter. :thumb:

There's a program called google Sketchup that's free and seems to be well featured and decently powerful. Renderings are good, measurements and things can be labeled and rotated and it's a 3D platform.
could try it - it's free...
