Cab Lights regrets?

I'm on the fence here guys, so I'm hoping you guys can push me one way or the other.

I have been wanting to add cab lights to my LB7 for a while now. I think the factory style looks great. But I'm having a hard time believing that cutting/drilling holes in my perfectly sealed roof won't give me problems in the future. Problems like water leaks, and rust.

I know that these lights are added all the time(I think). How many of you guys have had issues after adding can lights? Are they typically problematic or trouble-free?

A power sliding sunroof would be sweet also.....

My work lly cab lights leak and are developing some nice rust bubbles. They were factory lights and its a highway plow truck so salt exposure is above normal tho. We have 4 other gmcs, 2 older than the lly with no issues.

Added mine at least 5 years go and like them. No rust issues, no leaks. I have an aftermarket set and would suggest the oem brand. I don't think the plastic as good as OE

I ordered some smoked lights to put on my truck. Then a friend talked me out of putting the lights on such a street looking truck and after looking back I am glad I didn't do them. Cab lights are better suited on a lifted or towing vehicle imo.

Exactly, cab lights just kill the sleek look of a truck

Did a smoked set on my LBZ from recon. I only had it a year but they never leaked a drop. I like cab lights, my LMM didn't have them so I made sure to order my LML with...

Question to those who installed cab lights and had problems:

What did you do to seal the metal/paint after drilling the holes? What did you use to seal the light housings to the paint?

Same question to those who did not have any problems. Thanks guys!

Aftermarket lights that I'm familiar with don't follow roof line like oem's do. My lbz I bought used, the previous owner had added them. They would leak a little but I used silicone on screws and rubber base. No problems for a year now. I do like them as well but I would buy oem's.

I prefer the 5 separate cab lights instead of 3. Clear or smoked. But ultimately I like none best. All personal preference.

To seal it just use black gasket maker. Or the black weatherstripping sealer.
