hope mike can chime in but when i was talking to him about installing the new PPE C5 clutch packs he mentioned to measure the original stack height and the new clutch stack height did that and what i found was the new clutches total height is .030 thicker than the original is that to much? might setup to tight can i take the difference off the c5 backing plate by milling it so that the total over all would be the same? hope this makes sense.

Mine measured .183 from tab in case to apply plate. The actual clutch pack clearance measuring from bottom of case after 1000 miles was .085.

I believe I am .005 on the tight side. I spoke with Mike and he said its good to run it. I did this before I had talked to Mike so I never got to compare stacks. .035 seems like alot. I think the factory c5 calls for .090 - .110 clutch pack clearance measured thru slot in bottom of case. You may need to have your plate machined. I am sure Mike will chime in. Good luck.

C5 clutch pack should be measured through the bottom of the case with gasket installed. factory clearance is .070-.085.

this was just measuring the total height of each stack of clutches side by side the new clutches are .030 thicker it recommends to measure from the top of the top steel lug through to the top steel plate s/b .170 to .200 when doing that i come up with .234 will have to recheck

Thought I was the only one who did it this way. I know the ATSG manual says to stack it up and measure, then measure the depth, and figure it that way. I found it WAY easier to put the extension housing on, snug the cover, and slide a feeler guage into the slot in the back. Then theres no question what the clearance is.

That's how most people check c5 clearance.

I know the manual says to use a height guage and what not, I thought that was to much of a pain myself.

thanks Guy's for the tip totally made sense once i relooked at it and yes i think i am good using yours & Mikes method rather than the ATSG version i have .075 clearance Mike thanks for the advise on specs as well i feel good that i am between your spec of .070 - .085 funny that the ATSG Manual wants .090 - .110 Moving Forward!!! :thumb:
