I was thinking of bypassing the original 83 combination valve for the rear brakes and plumb a adjustable prop valve inline from the master cylinder straight to the rear.
After a little research I think that the stock combination valve will only let around 300 psi for drum brakes to operate and I need much more for the disc.
Does this sound like I'm heading the right direction?

Well got to drive the truck a little bit I have Ben's tuning with one of his DSP 5 switches. Only had it up to 3 and at half throttle it will lite up the 295 ATs that are currently on the truck. I am surprised how well this engine runs compared to the built 406 SBC. Next steps will be a cage and 4 link set up after getting the trans built.

It looks great! I'm jealous as all hell, sir! Did you get your brakes figured out?
Thanks! I ended up putting an adjustable prop valve and bypassing the original with the rear brakes. I'm surprised how well it stops

Update on the truck after taking it to the track with the stock transmission and running it a few times I got bit by the go fast bug pretty hard. I ended up selling a motorcycle to free up some funds for the new addiction. I made a call to limitless diesel and Evan was great to deal with and spent more time on the phone with me than any shop that is much closer to home. That and the great reputation he has had me sold. Took the ride up to his shop to pick up the tranny and could not be happier with it. Next was getting some good tuning and everyone I talked to pointed me in Marks direction from Danville performance. He hooked me up with a dsp5 tune today I was able to take it out for a little ride after the rain stopped but I could already feel the difference with out putting any fuel to it. A duel fueler is on it way then I'm hoping to get it out to the local track for a test and tune. I'm going to try and take it down to Rudy's next month.

The best 1/4 was a 12.8 @ 113 mph. On stock trans and number 2 on the old dsp5.

Went our to a local TNT last night and after. A couple low 11 sec passes turned the truck up and finally got a 10.52 @ 129 out of it! The trans worked great and the tuning was pretty much smoke free. I couldn't be happier with the way the truck worked
