Hey everyone, glad to be a part of the forum. I'm looking to get my first Duramax after I've been drooling over them for years
A good deal came up and wanted to see what you guys thought of it, it's a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500hd Ext Cab, long bed 4wd, with 156,000mi for $14,500. Injectors were replaced in 2005 according to Carfax. Should I go for it!?

To me that’s crazy pricey especially for an ec/lb. those injectors are probably on their way out of they're the same type. Unless you’re very mechanically inclined, go for an 04.5 or newer. Lb7 injectors are known to cause repeated issues.

I'm fairly mechanically inclined, new to the diesel world but I'm no schmuck. I was curious about the price, I'm going to check out the truck tomorrow to see go through a checklist of things and give it a test ride.

Nope. its an ext/LB with 156k on it. not a very desirable cab lay out and way too much for an LB7 in my opinion. Most likely needs injectors again as well cause the ones they replaced back in 05 at 36k were no where near the upgraded ones you can get now.

3 strikes against. Like chevy said. Long bed and xcab. On top of lb7. There's way better deals out there. Spend a little more and get a lly and up

The replacement injectors are because the originals failed from factory. At this mileage your are right at or just beyond the point miles wise for needing new ones.

I agree its too much $$ without the injectors already replaced.

FYI, when buying ANY used lb7 I ask to see the receipts when someone says the injectors have been replaced. Without receipts which state the mileage of the repair I walk.

Good Luck! :thumb::thumb:

Why be upside down 5-6k driving it off the lot.

I did my own injectors also. It's just a pain in the ass on these lb7s vs newer.

And welcome.

Merged the duplicate threads into one in Smoke Signals.

When you call your wife to tell her that you hurt the engine, and she says, "Do what you have to do to fix it", then you know you have a keeper.

Mine says if it wasn’t on the big tune all the time and I didn’t drive like a retard it wouldn’t blow up, lol. Guess she paid attention the first time.

I got with mine when she was 13 and I was 15, I just turned 30. I’ve went through a lot of trucks since then.

Props to you amigo. That’s something rare as hell these days. Maybe one day... sorry for the detail to the OP. Like I stated earlier. Many better deals out there. And for a duramax newb... 04.5-07 is ideal.
