Help: Buying 1st Duramax

HI everyone: I am looking to buy my 1st Duramax but have questions.
When did GM start using the DPF's?
Looking just at 2006 model year but have noticed that the 2007 Chevy has Silverado 2500H/D Classic and Silverado 2500H/D. Does the Silverado 2500H/D Classic and the 2006 year without the DPF's
Are their certain items that I need to be looking for?

The 06 and 07 Classics do not have DPF's

GM started using the DPF in the '07.5 models which is the newest body style. The 2006 & 2007 models do not have the dpf & would be considered the "classic" body style.

I would make sure and run VIN number report. Dont even ask which Dmax engine is best... I'm not sure Pat and Kat have the disk space or bandwidth to support that argument.
