Help! Looking for anyone who has dealt with this before. I keep my cell phone charger plugged into my cig. lighter socket all the time. I plugged my phone to it and it would not charge. Tried the GPS, no power. Checked the fuse (15a) under the hood and it was blown. I put a new fuse and it blew immediately. Figured my socket was bad so decided to change it. When I pulled it out- the wiring to the socket was melted as far back as I could see/feel. I'm assuming I need to change out this whole wire because not only does the cig. lighter socket not work, the obd plug has no power either. Apparently its tied into the same fuse as the cig lighter socket. I could care less about the cigarette socket working, I need power to that obd especially now b/c I have a check engine light and can't pull the code. Any advise on how to rewire or somehow get power back to the obd plug?

For now cut the lighter wires and tape the ends. Put a new fuse in and your OBD should work. Eventually you will need to replace the bad wires.

The factory cig. lighter wiring is far too small of a gauge. Mine gets really hot when pulling over 10 amps. Last time I pulled the dash, the wiring was all discolored.

Try cutting the wires for now. Like Mike (btfarm) said, that should get your OBD port going. Unless the wires melted and shorted somewhere you can't see, that is. If they melted/shorted, you'll have to dig deeper into the dash until you find the short. Good luck!

Thanks for the help guys. So to be sure I understand, I need to get to "good wire"- meaning not melted or exposed and cut it there and tape it up? If that is the case, I'm gonna have to go DEEP cuz it looks pretty bad from what I can see. Oh and Mike (btfarm) Thank you for your service to our country! Thanks again all for the advise!!
