For what you are saying you are wanting the truck to do, a stage three sun coast kit with a precision converter will be just right. This is what I have in my truck and it's seen some pretty good horsepower both on the sled track and drag strip. I also pull my 33' 5th wheel camper all over the country all with no issues. I bought my kit from George and had a local guy install it for me. If you can install the kit yourself you will save a bunch of money. I would also recommend buying the kit from mikeL as he is a supporting vendor and has great customer service and troubleshooting help.

Building automatics is all black magic for me and I lack patience lol, if I bought the kit, is that something a local performance transmission shop could build?

You get what you pay for...if you cheap out and they mess something up think about cost then...also if you build it just build it right and build it once a stg4 kit isn't that much more and also you could resale it where as most ppl wouldn't buy a 500hp tranny

I say if you're confident in your ability build it, do it yourself. A lot of people on here think that Allison's are made of magic and pixie dust. If you're not completely confident, pay someone with experience to do it!
