Burn rate is an issue. However, I have been finding that fuel burns faster with higher chamber pressures. So if you can keep the boost up...

The next problem is getting the fuel into the chamber in a timely manner.

i remember Pat mentioning that the Piezo injectors might be a option some time down the road ? ( custom machining of coarse ) and dont know what it would take to control them ?

As it was explained to me, the burning characteristics of diesel fuel are what limit rpm.

Im sure this is part of the equation.

But if tractor pullers can spin their engines to 7,000RPM when they were designed to make power under 2,000 i dont see why the same couldnt be acheived with other diesels.

Granted these tractor are running HUGE 5" inlet turbos many of them using 2 3 or even 4 chargers to get enough air, seeing intake mani pressures in excess of 200psi and running mechanicl injection

You are definately gonna need some valvetrain to handle the rpms and after what Johnboy has gone thorugh sounds like you will need some higher compression if you want to be able to drive anywhere but the trailer and at the track.

I stil plan on one day building an unlimited single dmax running big rpm but from everyone I have talked to and read about the fuel will be the limiting factor as the cp3's start to float and loose effieciency above 5k rpms

This is the highest rpms I have ever heard out if a dmax. I cant express how bad that truck makes me

To be honest, videos just dont do justice of that truck, you should see it in person.

Troys truck is awesome but I do not think he is spinning the rpm you would think. I bet mid 4000s. What makes it sound so evil is the cam IMHO. My truck sounded like that. That is why I put the muffler on. If that sounds loud outside you should hear it in the cab.:Charger:

When you spin it real hard the crackel goes away.

I could watch that vid all day long.LOL

Also, to add .

The LLY computers are going to be really struggling at the kind of rpms that are being tossed around. Might have to go to an LBZ/LMM setup to make sure things are going to be up to speed.

LB7/LLY injection system (FICM/ECM) is done at around 5,000. Will it turn faster, yes, but not with a large degree of accuracy and efficency.

If you want to turn in the upper 4,000's and faster with big power, IMO you need to run LBZ stuff.

Going with big injectors to keep the pulsewidth down seems to really help things out. It should not tax the FICM near as much. But If your looking to spin really hard and a truck to do it with a LBZ would be my pick. I have an LB7 so I use it.
