Built Gmax Failure

How common is this and is there any apparent root cause?

Random casting difference is my guess. It's not a very common occurance at all.

Any casted housing is going to have weak points from air bubbles or foreign material in the mold. Every once in a blue moon the bad spot is where it causes the maximum damage when it gives. Sucks, but it's just the luck of the draw...

Think about it: if cat didn't say where he had it built in his first post, the first reply back would've been some snarky remark like, "who built it" or "talk to your builder".

Just an FYI...Transmission is up and running again. Thanks to Mike L for pointing the builder up here in Canada in the right direction. Thanks Mike!!!:thumb:

I know on my Rossler turbo 400 there is a piece that Rossler adds to help keep the snap ring in place. It's works as a back up. I would also think that a built trans vs a stock trans would put more pressure on the snap ring. I'm no trans builder just my guess?

From what I understand from Mike L, it looks like a solenoid stuck open and produced uncontrollable pressure. Apparently there has been problems with these. Mile L would have to chime in to verify though.

You can drive around with 500 PSI + of pressure and not have an issue blowing the lugs out the case. Considering how rare it is for it to happen with how many built transmissions there are out there and the fact they will do it stock form also it seems to be a luck of the draw case imperfection issue instead of something caused by to much pressure.

Could be what you say. I don't know other then what was told to me. I know there was an adjustment made in the valve body at Mike L's recommendation.
