I am about to start my lb7 build This is what I have going on.
Lb7 block and crank with Carillo's and stock lb7 delipped pistons. Heads freshened up with stock cam. I am thinking to run new stock injectors with my current lbz cp3 running 25k rail pressure. S475 over rebuilt stock with bmw. Trans is built with 70k miles now.with ad165
1. Are Carrillo rods a waste at this power level. I do have a set of low mile lbz rods
2. I have had Idaho Rob's tuning for 4 yrs and 70k miles with no complaints but open to ideas on tuner.
thank you
3.think a s366 is a better choice.
I daily drive the truck only. Just want more power for toying around

Using aftermarket rods is always better than any other option. You will want more eventually. I would go a smaller oversized injector myself. Thirty percent to forty five would work really well with want you are doing and have some room to grow. After having bigger injectors you won't go back to stock.

x2 On rods now that way you are not beating yourself up later. I would do a set of bigger injectors that will fit accordingly within your budget.

How reliable are stock delipped pistons? At what level are they being pushed too far?

about 800hp reliably based on what ive seen. still no guarantee though. also depends on how your achieving that hp, IE: lots of fuel and not so much air, nitrous, ect.

OP if you plan to stick with the stock over 475, id do stock delipped pistons, carillos, atleast 45-60% over injectors, dual fuelers, and head studs.

if you do the s366, put a 480 over it. stocker over 475 will limit you to about 750hp with 45% over injectors. 366/480 will gain you more.

if we knew what kind of power you were going for or would like to grow into, it would be easier to tell you what to put in the motor lol

I guess what you need to do first is, try and determine what power goal you'll want to attain in the future...

Stick with the carrillos fer sure, dont skimp on the rod if you plan to turn uo the juice, the LBZ rods are better than the LB7 rods but they aren't great...i have heard the LML rods are pretty dang stout tho

Ive been pretty content with 600whp for a year, but the feeling is fading so consider that you'll likely have the desire for more, and it will happen sooner than later;)

Your LBZ CP3 should be able to produce low to mid 600's with a small set of injectors if its in really good shape..heck you might be able to hit the 600 mark on stock injectors but i wouldn't recommend it...

This probably isnt going to be a popular opinion here, cuz everyone seems to go big now, but a set of 20% over injectors will get you to 700, and thats where i would place the limits of the de-lipped LB7 slugs, and of course thats with a really good tune!

Me personally, id stick a set of fingers oval bowls in there and have no concerns
But money is usually the deciding factor with this stuff, it was for me and when my engine let go i biught a new GM LBZ long block and called it a day...
So do what ya gotta do, and good luck!

I am in a similar situation as the OP. Right now I'm at about 600 with my stock bottom end lb7 with head studs, 366, 45% injectors, modded LBZ pump... I'd like to put in some LBZ rods, delipped lb7 pistons, and an AF cam, and turn it up to 675-700. Seem like a good idea?? I don't beat on the truck much, it's my DD. It's living fine at 600 with stock bottom end right now but you always want more... I think 675-700 is my stopping point though.

I am looking for around the 700 mark. Give or take a few .I really have no need for the power other than want. I will run the Carillo's and stock lb7 delipped pistons. I really only want to run one lbz pump.maybe a modded one down the road. I was thinking 30% overs on injectors and I will have head studs.
It is being built for 9000lb cc dually daily driver. I am not stuck on a compound set up but want faster spool up and steadier boost. my boost fluctuates between 28-32 now around shifts but is probably not efficient at that level.
Thank you
