Im gathering parts for my engine build, block is machined and will be here soon so far i have a 20 overbore block machined with torque plate ,new cam bearings, mains were align honed , gorilla girdle with main studs ,af 6480 cam ,socal springs with titanium retainers, socal flex plate, ati balancer, rocker/head studs, billet hold downs, a NEW lb7 crank that i need to get keyed and balanced , i can get a good deal on crower rods with flycut mahle race cast pistons and hx bearings so i think thats the way im gonna go. My questions are what oil pump should i get and what else should i have keyed other than the crank and cam which the cam is already keyed of course. some people have the oil pump keyed? and is there anything else anyone would recommend?

Melling on the oil pump.. I would skip the headers n just do sum RDL,PPE or HSP manifolds unless it's a full time drag truck...

Gotcha. They will work great as well I was just sayin u could get by with just the manifolds. Sounds like u have a goods start on an awesome setup!.. Good luck on ur build.. Merchant has sum good rods as well as Socal since u already have the springs n retainers u could go with a set from them...

No problem, i really want a set of hsp billet manifolds and up pipes but i will have to see if my budget will support that after everything else lol. I will look into both of those places for pushrods . Thanks!

What kind of fuel and air? If you're going to be making big power then different pistons.

Factory oil pump!

X2 on using a factory GM oil pump, and Merchant push rods' are in just about everyone's build. Not really seeing a need for the keyed oil pump, unless your budget allow's for such extras'. Have the water pump pinned, or purchase one from Danville Performance. Any reason you would go with HSP Billet, Instead of Pro-fab Log Style?

What do you think of welding the water pump or is that not a good option anymore? I built my own set of headers and up pipes the flange has gotten a lil warped bc i only used 1/2 thick flange but they still seal up fine the billet manifolds just seem super beefy and there quality of work is amazing.

The welded pumps are still prone to fail every now n then but the pinned pumps are stayin together and are the best way to go Ive heard.

Good to know

Why did you go with a lb7 crank instead of a lml? Curious cause I'm going to be using a lot of the same parts in my build.

I didnt know you could use them in a lb7 build i figured they would take more external weight to balance like an lbz/lmm and would and not be as strong. Are people using them in lb7 builds and what flexplate would you use for it?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but my understand is that the lml cranks are stronger and interchangeable not to mention half the price. You would still need the crank and everything balanced and weighted differently but you can still use the lb7 flex plate and balancer.

If thats the case i might consider going that route if that is possible. Im not past the point of no return

Im sure someone else will chime in. I'm am using a lml crank in a lbz block. With a SoCal flex plate and super damper

If it will work in a lbz block im sure it will work in a lb7. Im gonna make a call in the morning to make sure it will work. If it does im sending my other crank i just got back bc i havent had it keyed yet and it hasnt been opened. It will save me about 300 bucks too. :woott:
