If you're worried about bore distortion you could always lower the torque on the studs. I'm almost positive the original spec from ARP was 90 lb-ft. You wouldn't get as much clamping force, but you would get less distortion. Even at 90, I'm sure it is tighter than stock bolts. Pick your poison.

Bottem line is, for the guy replacing HGs and installing studs in his back yard, tq plate honing is not required.


Now if the motor was out of the truck already, then the answer is a clear yes, tq plate hone it.

I agree it's not going to happen. Just figured I'd let him now that there are things that can happen from putting studs in such as a lack of compression. A little blow by isn't the only thing that'll occur if you have distortion.
