Broken flex plate sound?

Think I might have a broken flex plate or loose converter bolts. Don't know what either one sounds like but I have a nasty 12valve cummins sound coming from my bellhousing. Messed with my tuning yesterday and have been out breaking her in. Nasty rattle coming from that area. If I rev it up though it seems to go away. Any ideas?

Also truck has a ppe stage 5 with black goerend converter. Installed by me with about 4,000 miles on it. If I rev it up it goes away, seems to go away in reverse but no other gears.

I really hope so. Done quite a bit of research on it and seems like loose converter clutchs are another possibility but this thing has been quiet as can be until bout 2hrs ago

True statement. Got some other things on the agenda for today don't have time to mess with it. Will check it out first thing tomorrow and keep yah posted on my findings. Fingers crossed it's loose bolts but I used blue loctite on all bolts. Not trying to "one up myself " but I work on engines for a living at cat so I know my limits as far as running down bolts. But anything is possible.

You're right, maybe I should've put that on the bolts, makes a lot more sense

You might have overlooked some starting cracks in the flex plate. Adding 15 pounds of extra weight with a billet converter will make those cracks show up fast.

10-4. Thanks mike. So it's possible for the noise to happen in certain scenarios? Rather than it being broken and making the noise all the time.

If it's loose bolts there's the chance that the wholes are elongated now and you're still going to need to replace it.

Yanked the starter on it and took out the inner fender, all bolts were a little loose but from I can tell there is a crack in the flex plate closer to the center of it. Hoping that's the culprit for the noise. I removed all the bolts from the converter, slid it back a hair and started the truck. Noise is gone with converter disconnected so I'm hoping the two being mounted together is causing the flex plate noise.

At what point does the factory flex plate need to be upgraded to a billet unit? I'm sure there's guys running big power through the factory one. Just wondering if it's worth upgrading so this doesn't happen again.
