I am willing to drive a good ways as far as machine and balancing goes as long as the prices are good. Does anyone know a reasonable price for internal balance on a motor this size?

Local diesel shop tells me none of these new parts will require a re balance because everything is "zero balance". I am not of the opinion of that and will be balancing this motor no matter what.

Wise choice to have your motor balanced.

Where are you located at?

Definitely have it balanced. If you go with internal balancing it isn't cheap, $2000 - 2500.

Trent managed to split a delipped lb7 in pretty short order around that power level.

Not really "short order." That first race engine was put together on a budget, had de-lipped LB7's, uncoated, with about 140K miles. I saw them before being installed and the edge had a very large radius. They were 15:1 compression with a lot cut from the side of the bowl.....he says he took too much out. But they lasted surprisingly well. About 20 runs at 800 to 900+ hp, and 30 runs at something like 1000-1100hp (enough to go 146mph) until one finally cracked.

There are a couple shops that can do it within a 50 mile radius. Doug Kennedy (Kennedy Machine) moved to redbud. He was an artist when it came to machining. I recommend him over anyone. IMO. Hedrics balances the in Champaign.

If you are wanting to do an internal balance, we can do it. As in a Zero Balance Flexplate & Fly Wheel and adding a lot of heavy metal to the crank. But the Crank has to start off as an LB7/LLY crank. Just give us a call. 317-286-3573

I'd say between 600-650 at the wheels. What turbo are you running?

Just a little FMW S362/68/.83. Have not got on the dyno yet, customers come first. Much like the deal when the compact compounds were on the truck.

Anyone ever had any problems with or without doing rocker studs? 120 round numbers to get, but didnt know if theyre necessary.

Also, whats everyones opinions on setting valve lash? Ive hear setting it to 11 thousands vs. 12 makes them run quieter and smoother. I will be running a socal AF 3388 cam.

Not sure if you can still get rocker studs unless you put it together yourself. I got ARP rocker bolts from merchant auto. I didn't do them in the first built motor but did them in this one. I set my valves to 11. Not sure if it is quieter or not but runs fine.

Another question is a new oil cooler. Since my crank broke, should i have any interest in getting a new one, cleaning my stock one out, or leaving it as is?

Pulling my John deere 3720 weighing in at 4500 and the bumper pull trailer at 5k down the interstate my oil temps would get to 230 at the highest at 70mph. Truck also has Mishimoto low temp tstats in it because it only gets driven in the summer. Seems high to me, but has always made me curious. And the gauge is an after market one tapped in at the oil filter head to read the temps.

Thanks for all the help.
