well i went to the track tonight for test and tune to try and get a 1/4 mile pass in. first run again, pulled up and screwed the staging all up, so i decided just to roll into it until about 3rd gear, then in 5th something in the piece of shit trans let go again. truck still moves under it own power, but in park its grinding just sitting there. no codes. stripped teeth off the hub?

amen to that. ive been thinking the exact same thing about parking it or going to a duraflite. yeah the duraflites are expensive but by the time i get this allison turd to hold i could have already bought a duraflite. and then i would have a trans that would actually click off gears going down the track instead of defueling like a tard.

yes it would

you'll have to explain that one to me. If you are in park, the trans output isnt turning....so nothing in the transfer case is turning. How does something make a constant grinding noise if the truck is stationary and nothing is trying to turn the transfer case?

The differential stops the output shaft from turning. So it is either trnfercase or broken uotput shaft. Sorry I forgot about that.

AHHH!!! Ok I see now. :)

So I guess the next question for bigstrokin would be... if you shut the truck off in park, and start it back up, leave it in park....does it start grinding?

if it moves under its own power it wouldnt be the output right?
If either input or output shaft is broken you don't go anywhere. I don't believe grinding can occur in park if it was started in park and left there. Geartrain is locked. Grinding occurs when the input shaft is released when taken out of park.

The truck still moves under its own power so its not the input or output. Truck just makes a bad grinding noise. He was running down the track and something let loose and the motor free revved in 5th gear. Not sure what it is but the tear down starts tomm.

if you start the truck in park, it grinds. if you put it in gear, the grinding stops or gets less noticable. what could be broken in the transfercase?

If you start the truck in park and it grinds, its not the transfer case or output shaft, Im 99% sure.

Im trying to go through the trans in my head as to what shafts/planets are spinning in park/neutral but get stalled in gear (stopped, foot on brake). Your grinding seems turbine-speed related...

Mike will know for sure.

Ok Im not saying that whoever built your trans did a bad job I just think that you shouldnt give up on the ally yet. George built Jay's trans 18 months ago and it is still holding the same as the day he built it. Jay's truck is a 7000 pound ccsb with a full leather interior. He can build you the same trans for way less than it would cost for a duraflite.
